Overview of Gokyo Valley Trekking

Gokyo Valley trek is one of the most popular, traditional, and outstanding treks in the Khumbu region of Nepal. This fascinating trek offers you a magnificent view of the mighty Himalayas including Mt Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu, and many more cultural and natural sightseeing sites.

Gokyo valley trek situated in the Everest region of Nepal, is famous for its captivating view of the ice Lake of Gokyo, extravagant view of Kalapatter, and the flawless view of Mt Everest. Gokyo flourished with a snow-covered landscape, Ngozumpa Glacier- the largest in the Nepal Himalayas, cultural villages of Sherpa people, religious sites and old monuments of Buddhist culture, and the warm hospitality of the inhabitants.

Gokyo Valley Trek route

Gokyo Valley trek starts with an exotic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (3200m), one of the most adventurous airstrips around the world. We then ascend our trek into the Sherpa cultural villages all the way to Gokyo Valley. The trek is organized and the trekking trail is flourished with adventure, excitement, and the most beautiful natural landscape throughout the Everest region.

Commencing this fascinating Gokyo Valley trek will leave you with a mesmeric experience of both cultural and natural sightseeing around the high Himalayas of Nepal.

day 01 Welcome to Kathmandu valley

Welcome to Kathmandu valley (1360m). Upon your arrival, we assist you from the international airport to our hotel. Enjoy the cultural programs for your welcome and dinner function. Rest overnight.

day 02 Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla trek to Phakding

Today early in the morning we fly a scenic Mountain Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2810m). After a short rest, we start our Trek ascending all the way to Phakding (2,640 m). Rest overnight.

day 03 Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

The trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar is a beautiful one, taking around 4-5 hours to complete. As you gradually ascend, the trail will offer views of the surrounding mountains, lush forests, and charming villages. Namche Bazaar, sitting at 3,440 meters, is indeed considered the “Gateway to Everest” due to its strategic location for trekkers heading toward Everest Base Camp.

Once you arrive in Namche, you’ll have a chance to explore this vibrant town, which has plenty to offer. It’s a great spot to pick up any last-minute trekking essentials, such as extra gear, snacks, or clothing. You can also find local shops selling unique Sherpa-made goods and souvenirs.

After your trek, it will be important to rest and acclimatize at Namche before moving higher up in the Everest region. The town is known for its excellent hospitality, so you’ll likely enjoy the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the lodges there.

day 05 Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole

Today early in the morning after breakfast we ascend our trek from Namche Bazaar all the way to Dole (4200m/13779ft 5-6 hrs. Rest overnight.

day 06 Today we trek from Dole to Machhermo

day 08 Early morning trek to Gokyo RI and back to Gokyo

Today early in the morning our trek ascends to Gokyo- RI And then climbs Back to Gokyo (4,750 m). This is the highest point of the trek. Enjoy the classic view of Mt Everest and other mighty Himalayas of Nepal. Rest overnight.

day 09 Trek from Gokyo to Phortse Village (3860m/12664ft)

Gokyo to Phortse will offer you a different perspective of the landscape, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The descent from a high altitude can also give your body some time to adjust after the higher elevations of Gokyo, making it a perfect opportunity to relax and focus on recovery.

Phortse is a lovely village with incredible views of the Himalayas. It must be a great place to spend the night, perhaps with a chance to enjoy some local food and culture before resting for the night.

day 10 Trek from Phortse to Namche(3,440 m/11,286 ft.

The descent from Phortse back to Namche Bazaar sounds like a pleasant day of trekking, giving you a chance to revisit the beautiful Sherpa villages and enjoy the stunning scenery on the way down. Walking for 5-6 hours will be a good balance of time spent on the trail, giving you enough time to relax once you arrive in Namche. The elevation of 3,440 meters at Namche is a comfortable place to rest after a descent, and the hospitality of the Sherpa people is always a highlight.

Once you’re in Namche, you can enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the town, perhaps revisit some of the places you explored earlier in your trek, or just enjoy some downtime to reflect on your journey. If you’re feeling up to it, you could even explore a bit more of the area around Namche.

I completed the Manaslu Circuit with Saugat and Aunil, and it was an absolutely incredible experience! The trek was breathtaking, the organization was perfect, and the views were simply stunning. Saugat’s knowledge, professionalism, and expertise as a guide, together with Aunil’s help, kindness, and support as a porter, made the whole experience even more special. A life changing experience! Milan and Bhim were the best guide and porter for our very first trek in the Himalayas. Although the weather wasn’t always on our side, we got to see the most spectacular views, stayed in the best hotels/ camps and definitely got to tick off an item on the bucket list. Thanks to Life Himalaya Trekking, my husband and I were able to realize a dream. From the moment of organizing from Italy, Shiba proved to be extremely available and quick in communications. And, once here, we were able to immediately verify how efficient the entire team that makes up the company is. Shiba is infinitely sweet and friendly; he pampered us, guiding us through all the organizational aspects of our trip, from the trek to Everest Base Camp to cultural visits in Kathmandu and surroundings, covering all types of transportation we needed. Thanks to him, we had the pleasure of spending our time in Nepal with unique people, who allowed us to get to know this wonderful country and its inhabitants up close. Tika was our guide during the hike to EBC, and thanks to him and our porter Podam, we experienced a wonderful and authentic adventure! It was exciting to reach the destination after a journey that lasted about a week. But it was equally incredible and moving to fly by helicopter from Gorak Shep to Lukla, retracing from above every step taken and every place experienced during the previous days. We would like to thank Promot, Raj, Rajan, and especially our exceptional tour guide Ajya, who accompanied us through the most iconic places in Kathmandu, sharing their history and every cultural aspect. The passion and love for one's work allowed us to immerse ourselves in a world that, otherwise, we would have understood and experienced only halfway. We were extremely satisfied with our Everest Base Camp trek with Life Himalaya Trekking. From the moment we were picked up at the airport, everything was organized perfectly. Due to weather conditions, the company arranged a helicopter flight for us, which made the start of our adventure even more special. Our guide, Rabin, was exceptional. He was kind, caring, and looked after us every step of the way. Whenever we felt unwell, he made sure we were comfortable and helped us recover. His knowledge of the mountains, careful approach to acclimatization, and genuine care for our well-being allowed us to continue the journey safely. Most importantly, he treated us like family, making the entire trek feel like a trip with friends rather than a guided tour. Our porter, Arjun, was equally amazing. He was always cheerful, funny, and incredibly helpful. During acclimatization hikes and challenging moments, he even helped with our backpacks when we were struggling. His positive attitude made every day more enjoyable. Both Rabin and Arjun are true gems and a huge asset to the company. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us. I had a wonderful time trekking EBC. Birsha Rai was an awesome guide he made sure I had anything I needed. He made sure my accommodations were good and I had plenty of water and snacks for the trek. Dhan Kajl was my porter and he took extra care of my things my bag was always clean and dry when delivered to my room. He even carried my day pack the last stretch of EBC trek. Life Himalayan took care of me from the moment I landed and was without one bag to making sure I made all my helicopter connections. Someone was there every step of the way. Life Himalaya Trekking gave us an amazing experience! We had the most wonderful guide, Jal Tamang. Not only did he provide amazing conversation, high spirits, and tons of great information about the Everest region, he went above and beyond when a member of our party got altitude sickness. He worked tirelessly to bring food & water to them during their hospital stay, but also coordinated their time in Lukla after they had had to descend. I still made it to Base Camp, and throughout our journey he made the entire experience unforgettable. The accommodations were also truly top notch, with the earlier tea houses offering hot showers, readily available charging, and even heating pads under the mattresses. What a beautiful experience! Life Himalaya trekking and their team are truly great. Our guide Rabin Ray is a mountain professional. He took great care of us throughout the journey. Our porter Tik as well, always there to help us. Shiba, the owner, is a professional and he makes sure to meet us and ensure that everything goes well before our departure.
