Best Time For The Lower Manaslu Trek

Nepal experiences four distinct seasons annually, among which spring and autumn are the two best seasons for trekking in Nepal. Take a look at each of the season’s briefs for trekking to Gorkha or Lower Manaslu:

Spring (March to May)

The favorable weather and moderate temperature make spring one of the best times for trekking to the Lower Manaslu region. The average daytime temperature ranges from 10 to 20°C. There is very little rainfall, so the trails are dry, and the skies are clear. Similarly, visibility is great, with little to no obstruction. At this time of year, you can enjoy the best views of the surrounding landscapes and mountain vistas.

Another great thing about trekking in spring is witnessing the active flora and fauna. The forest trails thrive with blooming rhododendrons, magnolias, and other wildflowers. Since the Lower Manaslu trails go through the Manaslu Conservation Area, you can glimpse rare and endangered wildlife.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is unsuitable for Lower Manaslu Trekking as it rains heavily in Nepal’s hilly and lower regions. The season coincides with the monsoon, which makes the trails muddy, wet, and slippery. There is also an increased risk of landslides, mudslides, and floods during summer. The weather is also hot and humid, so the temperature in the lower region ranges between 15 and 25°C.

Due to heavy rainfall that lasts all summer, it is the least favorable time of the year for trekking. Visibility is also poor, and flights will likely be delayed or canceled. However, the rain cleanses the surroundings and the impurities in the atmosphere. It leaves the landscapes clean, fresh, and vibrant. It is best to avoid the summer season for Lower Manaslu Trek.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is the peak season for trekking in Nepal. This season is the favorite among trekkers due to the stable weather, mild temperature, clear skies, and excellent visibility. Additionally, the crisp autumn air makes trekking more enjoyable at this time of the year. The average daytime temperature is between 10 and 20°C.

Another good thing about autumn is the beautiful foliage that adds to the already stunning landscapes. You can enjoy crystal-clear views of the mountain vistas. The comfortable weather and climate make it the best time for the Lower Manaslu Trek. Furthermore, the biggest Nepali festivals, Dashain and Tihar, also fall in autumn, which enhances your trekking experience.

Winter (December to February)

As the winter season enters Nepal, the temperature slowly begins to drop. The daytime temperature in the lower region ranges from 5 to 10°C and gets colder during nighttime. The temperature in higher regions plunges even further below the freezing zone. But the days are usually warm, and there is enough sunlight. Many adventurous trekkers choose to trek in winter for a more thrilling experience.

The weather in winter is undoubtedly harsh, as there is heavy snowfall in the high-altitude areas. But the snow-covered landscape looks spectacular, and mountain vistas look grand. Only a few trekkers are on the route in winter, so you can enjoy the quiet trekking atmosphere. Trekking in winter requires proper preparation and gear, but it is worth trying.
