Can a beginner trek to the Short Everest Base Camp Trek?

Yes, a beginner can trek to the short 9-day Everest Base Camp, but this will be one of the most challenging treks ever. However, a beginner should be well prepared to trek to the Everest Base Camp. There are multiple challenging ascents and descents while trekking to the Everest region. To ensure a successful trek to Everest Base Camp, a trekker should be physically prepared for this trek. He/she should start preparing from a few months prior to this trek.

The Everest Base Camp Trek will take the beginner to an altitude of 5,545 meters from sea level. Reaching such an altitude in a short span of time increases the chances of altitude sickness. This is why there should be an acclimatization day in your itinerary. Besides their physical preparation, a beginner should be equally prepared mentally to overcome any challenges that come their way. This short trek to EBC might present the beginner with multiple challenges, but a beginner with a strong will and decent physical fitness can successfully trek to the Everest Base Camp.

Required Permits for the Short EBC Trek

There are two permits required for the short Everest Base Camp Trek. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit and Sagarmatha National Park permits are the two permits required for this trek. You can get the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permits at the entrance point in Lukla. The cost for this permit is NPR 2000. Unlike any other trek in Nepal, you do not need the TIMS Card while trekking in the Everest Base Camp.

You will also have the possibility of the hot shower, charging, and internet, but you will be charged a few dollars for it.

Helicopter ride from Gorak Shep to Lukla

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter return to Lukla from Gorakshep is one of the most luxurious parts of the trek. This helicopter tour will provide you with an aerial view of the Everest Himalayas. This Everest Base Camp Trek with a helicopter return is one of the most exciting trekking experiences ever. The Helicopter return decreases the chances of altitude sickness, as being at an altitude of 5,545 meters for a longer period is risky. Also, the EBC trek with helicopter return provides you the luxury of not having to trek anymore but, in fact, enjoying the best view of Everest.

The total distance to be trekked during the classic 15-day Everest base camp trek is around 110 km. However, if you opt for the helicopter ride back, you will only be trekking around 65 km. Stop searching for the PERFECT trekking company…here they are
Stop searching for the PERFECT trekking company…here they are! My husband and I just completed the 9 day Everest Base Camp Trek at the end of October 2018 and have nothing but amazing things to say about this group.

From the start, Shiba (owner) was so responsive and prompt in his emails and updates. If I had a question, no matter how small or detailed, he would email me back within 24 hours with all the information I needed. From exact travel dates, visa requirements, travel advice and a day-to-day structure of the trek, he was all over it. When we finally met in person I was not surprised that he was as awesome in the office as he was by email. From the very start, his group went above and beyond to make sure we had the perfect Nepal/EBC experience.

Firstly, a trip to a country where the primary language is about as far from English as you can get is somewhat intimidating. LHT took care of EVERY. SINGLE. DETAIL of the trip. From the hotels in Kathmandu (Mhotel Thamel was AWESOME) on both ends of the trip, Lukla flights, tea houses, food/tipping, helicopter and all things in between, we had white glove service from the second we put down our deposit all the way through our Kathmandu departure. Even when we were finished with our trek and had another day of sightseeing, Shiba offered to get us a ride to the airport! That’s just the kind of dude he is….thoughtful, sincere and someone you can count on for sure!

When we arrived in the Kathmandu airport, he had a very sweet and bright young man there to meet us at the airport. They took us directly to the office to meet with Shiba and meet our guide, Kieran.

From the start, it was clear that Kieran was exactly the right guide for us. He was SO pleasant and accommodating! If we wanted to keep hiking, take a break, eat dinner early or needed extra blankets in the tea houses, he was right there to make everything happen. On our day to reach EBC, he agreed to get up SUPER early (5am start) and make sure we were the first ones there. We even had the entire base camp to ourselves for 30 minutes!!

Kieran was caring, reliable, and just fun to hang out with. He is a VERY hard working young man and you could tell he takes so much pride in his country and his job working as a guide.

I could literally go on and on about how fabulous this group is. Shiba has been operating independently for a few years now and had worked as a guide for many years prior to getting his own group started but the efficiency and sincerity with which his group is running already made our trip the PERFECT experience that it was. I literally have nothing even slightly negative to say and WILL be recommending this group to everyone who asks me about my experience.

We love Life Himalaya Trekking and hope to one day have time to return to Nepal and complete Annapurna with this group.

Stop looking for the perfect group because Life Himalaya Trekking is IT!

We went to trek to Everest base camp in June
We went to trek to Everest base camp in June and went with Life Himalaya. From the owner, Shiba, to the guides to the porters everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and made our experience amazing! They were so hospitable and really went above and beyond to make our journey to base camp the best it could be. The lodges they booked were the best you could probably get and for a really affordable price! Shiba took us out for lunch and booked a hotel room for us for us the day we got back so that we could shower before our flights. He didn’t have to do that at all. The best part of this company is that a portion of the profits made go to the rural villages of Nepal to help build schools, get medical aid, etc! I highly recommend going with them, I don’t think anyone does it better than them!!

Life Himalaya Exceeded my High Expectations.

If you plan to trek EBC then you MUST use a reputable trekking company. Life Himalaya provided everything we needed and more to make for a once in a lifetime trip. Due to bad weather flights to and and back from a Lukla were cancelled. Due to the contacts and connections of Life Himalaya we were one of the only trekking groups (out of 500+ people) to get flights.

Everything was organized and we were able to customize our trip. Shiba was always responsive and our guides and porters were full of life, love and kindness.

I did extensive research prior to using Life Himalaya. If you plan on trekking anywhere in Nepal or Bhutan then this is the company to use!
