All 8000 m Peak Base Camp Helicopter Tour in Nepal - Essential Information

Best Season

Our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal is operable any day of the year; however, the best golden time for the tour will be in autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May).

During autumn time, the atmosphere will be clear, granting you excellent views of all the Himalayas on the tour. You will also get the most consistent weather with the golden brown terrain and buzzing trail.

On the other hand, spring is the season of color, a terrain filled with blooming red, pink, and white rhododendrons. You will also get excellent morning visibility with the buzzing base camps of each mountain.

Winter (December to February) is another secret season for this tour, when the skies will be incredibly clear and blue during the day. The Himalayas will be most majestic; however, the biting cold at the base camps can make your 30 to 40-minute landing a bit tough.

Difficulty Level

Our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal is a moderate heli tour because of the high altitude environments you will visit. You won’t be hiking 6 to 7 hours a day, but there will be rapid air flights, which means the tour will not be physically hard, but you need to be able to adapt to the changing extreme environments of the base camps.

For the walking part, you will only walk short distances for a shorter duration (20 to 40 minutes) on uneven, rocky, and icy terrain during exploration of the base camps and other sites.

Thus, this tour needs only your adaptation to the thin air of the base camps during these landing and exploration times.

Eligibility and Physical Fitness

For participating in our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal itinerary, you don’t need to be a marathon runner or an athlete, but you do need a basic level of health and fitness.

You should possess a healthy heart and lungs, and if you have any preexisting conditions like asthma, high blood pressure, or heart disease, you must seek a medical consultation before joining our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal.

Also, if you are pregnant, if you have recently undergone any surgical or medical procedures, or if you are prone to altitude sickness, you should talk with your doctor before booking our tour.

Kindly understand that for this tour, you should be able to cope with 30 to 40 minutes of short walks during exploration of the base camps. But above all, you should be comfortable flying in the small, enclosed metal cabin of the helicopter.

As for eligibility, there are no age limitations specified for the tour. We have hosted many participants between 10 and 80 years old with stable health.

However, we generally don’t suggest our 11 days all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal for younger children, as their small lungs and inability to communicate symptoms of altitude sickness may make the tour a bit harder for them.

Training and Preparation for engaging in our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal

Our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal requires your body’s capability to adapt quickly to the high altitudes more than physical strength and endurance.

Therefore, we advise you to increase your heart and lung health through activities like swimming, cycling, or brisk walking, which you can do three times a week.

If possible, you can also walk up and down the stairs once a week. You can also engage in light yoga and planks so you can move comfortably on the mountainous terrain of Nepal.

If you think you are very sensitive to high altitude, then you can preacclimatize yourself before the tour by spending two or three nights in hilly areas of Nepal like Nagarkot.

Also, be mentally prepared for possible flight delays and trust your pilot’s decision.

Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS

The challenge of AMS in our all 8000 m peak base camp helicopter tour in Nepal arises because of your rapid ascent to thousands of meters of elevation in minutes rather than days.

Although there is no exhaustion from trekking, there will be sudden changes in altitude, air pressure, and oxygen level, which therefore can lead to AMS or altitude sickness during your 20 to 40-minute stops at base camps.

Instant discomfort, slight headache, nausea, sudden fatigue, and shortness of breath are some common symptoms you may experience, which are the milder signs of AMS.

However, your landings will be only for 30 to 40 minutes; therefore, there is a very rare chance of developing serious signs of AMS. If you experience vomiting or discoordination, you must inform our guide and pilot immediately so they can descend you immediately to the safest altitude.

For the prevention of AMS, we request that you drink 3 to 4 liters of water the day before your flight. Do not use alcohol and heavy caffeine, eat a light carbohydrate-rich breakfast, and take Diamox if you think you are sensitive to the high elevations.

As for our precaution, we assure you that our crew will carry a supplemental oxygen cylinder on each flight so it can be provided immediately if needed.
