When is the Best Time for Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek?

Spring

The months of Spring, from March to May, are considered the best time for the Himalayan adventure. Whether it be trekking or mountaineering expeditions, Spring is the first choice because of its stable weather conditions and the best views. Trekking in the Everest region during the Spring months allows you to walk in the colorful Rhododendron forests, witnessing the gigantic mountains standing erect in front. The temperature is moderate; the weather is stable, making it the best time for mountain climbing.

Breathtaking views of Himalayas and colorful Rhododendron tress at Everest Region during Spring

Moreover, trekking in the Sagarmatha National Park during the Spring months increases the chances of witnessing endangered wild animals such as Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Himalayan Thar, etc. The chances of snowfall are very rare during this time of the year, making it the best time for trekking or mountain climbing. Generally, the daytime temperature in the Everest region ranges around 10°C to 15°C in the lower altitudes and around 0°C to 5°C in the Everest Base Camp. However, the temperature drops below the freezing point during the nighttime.

Autumn

Autumn is another ideal time for trekking or mountaineering expeditions in Nepal. The weather conditions in Autumn are similar to the months of Spring. The clear blue skies, moderate temperature, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas make it an ideal time to trek to the Everest Base Camp. The chances of natural disasters, such as Landslides, avalanches, flooding, etc., are very rare during this time of the year. Every year, multiple tourists visit the iconic Everest Base Camp during the months of Autumn.

Interstingly, Autumn is the festive season in Nepal. Visiting Nepal during this time will provide you with a firsthand experience of Nepali festivals. You can take part in Nepali festivals such as Dashain and Tihar. Moreover, trekking in autumn is popular with domestic tourists. You can build a strong social connection and have a rich cultural exchange during your trekking or mountaineering experience in Autumn. The daytime temperature in the lower part of the Everest region ranges around 10°C to 15°C, and the temperature drops to around 0°C to 5°C in the base camp. Likewise, the temperature significantly drops below the freezing point around -10°C to -15°C during the night time.

Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek Difficulty

The difficulty level of the iconic Everest Base Camp Trek is rated as moderate, whereas the difficulty of climbing the Island is rated as 2B in the alpine grading system. Your trek to Everest Base Camp will not be an easy adventure, and you will need to prepare accordingly to reach the base of Mount Everest. There are several challenging ascents and descents in the trails to Everest Base Camp. Likewise, combining the expedition to Island Peak with Everest Base Camp makes this trip a challenging adventure. You will need to use climbing gear and equipment to summit the island’s peak.

Moreover, the expedition lasts for around 5 to 6 hours, and you will need to reach the summit before noon. The oxygen level at the elevation of 6000 meters will be significantly low, increasing the chances of acute mountain sickness. You need to have proper climbing boots, quality gear, and equipment to keep you warm throughout the trek to Island Peak.

Despite being the beginner-friendly peak, the excursion to Island Peak is challenging. You need to use equipment such as Crampons, rope, gaiters, etc., to reach the summit of Island Peak. To sum up, the Everest Base Camp with Island Peak climbing trip is a challenging adventure that provides you with an unreal trekking experience that you’ll cherish forever.

Accommodation & Meals On The Island Peak Climbing With EBC Trek

Tea houses are the common accommodation options for trekking in the Everest region. You can get upscale hotels in the lower trails of the Everest region, but as you ascend higher, you will find small tea houses and lodges run by the locals. These small places provide you with a decent service during your stay. A stay in a tea house will cost you around $10-20, depending on the place you’re in. Your rooms will often be shared as there are very few accommodation stops on the EBC Trails. Likewise, there will also be a camping stay during this EBC trek with Island Peak climb. You will need to stay in a camp at the Island Peak Base Camp.

Dry Fruits for Trekkers

The food options in the Himalayas are limited. You will be provided with high-calorie food that provides you with the sufficient energy required to trek or climb the mountains. Your Island Climbing package covers three meals per day, which are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Your food options for breakfast include items such as pancakes, cornflakes, tea, local bread, eggs, toast, hash brown potatoes, Thukpa, etc. Daal Bhaat will be the staple meal during the trek. The food options for lunch and dinner are almost similar, and they can be chosen from the hotel menu. However, the options include items such as Tibetan Bread, Curry, Daal Bhaat, Noodles, Eggs, Soups, Fries, Chapatti, Momo, Pizza, etc.

How To Prepare For Island Peak Climbing?

The island peak summit with the EBC trek is one of the most challenging adventures you’ll ever come across. You should be very cautious about your physical as well as mental health. You should be 100 percent ready to climb to Island Peak. If you’re a beginner who doesn’t even have the experience of a trek, we highly recommend you prepare for this trip at least a few months prior to your trip. Focus on improving your cardiovascular endurance and stamina. Going on prior hikes will help you understand the challenges of walking in the hills.

Altitude sickness is another major concern in the trek. Your body should be well prepared to adjust to high altitudes with low oxygen levels. Performing cardiovascular exercises helps you breathe easily in higher altitudes. You should start your training by performing exercises such as cycling, jogging, and taking a short walk in a day.

There are a few challenging ascents during your island peak excursion, and you will need some technical knowledge for it. You should come up with the idea of using mountain climbing equipment. As you will be commencing a long trek, it is essential that you’re ready to take any mental toll during your trip. You should come up with a positive attitude to tackle any hassle that comes your way.

Required Permits For The Island Peak Climb With EBC Trek

Sagarmatha National Park Permit, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit, and the Island Peak Climbing Permit are the three different permits required for this trip. Your Island Peak climbing package covers all the permit fees. However, if you wish to get the permits on your own, you can contact any registered trekking agency or get it from the issuing authority. The Nepal Mountaineering Association(NMA) issues climbing permits, and it costs you around $70-$250 depending on the climbing season.

Likewise, the Sagarmatha National Park permit is issued by the Nepal Tourism Board, and you can get it from the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or at the entrance point in the Everest region.
