Risks of Altitude Sickness in Short EBC Trek

Choosing the 7-Day Everest Base Camp Trek has a very high risk of catching altitude sickness compared to the other classic 15-day Everest Base Camp Trek. Continuous elevation gain will occur during this short EBC Trek, and you will not have the spare days to acclimate your body. Since there are no acclimatization days in your itinerary, you’re very likely to suffer from altitude sickness. You need to prepare yourself physically as well as mentally for this trek. Also, if you’re a beginner planning to hike the Everest Base Camp, this trek should not be your preferred choice as there will be two acclimatization days in your itinerary in the other 14 days trek.

You will start experiencing symptoms such as Headache, Nausea, Weakness, Shortness of breath, Fatigue, Dizziness, Loss of Appetite, etc. It is very important to take preventive measures immediately if you experience these symptoms.  You should follow a few protocols strictly to prevent acute mountain sickness. Giving proper rest to your body is key so that your body adapts well to high altitude. Another significant rule to follow while trekking to EBC is trekking at a gentle pace. Moreover, you should strictly avoid drinking alcoholic beverages to ensure a safe trek.

How to Train for the Trek?

Your physical strength will determine how easily you will complete the challenging seven-day Everest Base Camp trek. Trekking for around 65 kilometers in seven days needs good physical strength. You must improve your cardiovascular endurance to ensure a successful seven-day Everest Base Camp Trek. You should start your preparation at least 3 months prior to this trek. Performing aerobic training will help your body function well on less oxygen, which is essential in the Mount Everest Trek.

Going on a practice hike is another crucial preparation for the Everest Base Camp Trek. This helps you understand the challenges you will encounter in the Everest region trails. Keeping your body hydrated and consuming a nutritious meal is another boosting factor to improve your body’s physique. Here are a few training tips for the Short 7-Days Everest Base Camp Trek.

  • Train in environments or conditions as close as the Everest Base Camp Trek.
  • Get the quality gear and start practicing hiking or working out with it.
  • Do cardio workouts at least 4-5 times a week.
  • Give proper rest to your body after your workouts.
  • Consume nutritious meals.
  • Learn a few stretches to limber up before and after the day’s workout.

Best Time for a 7-Day Everest Base Camp Trek

Many trekkers come from different parts of the world to make short treks to Everest base camp. It becomes very important to know the precise time for trekking in these regions. In this kind of short trek, trekkers have a very short amount of time and a lot to explore and see. For that reason, the Trek period should be chosen at the exact time. The optimal periods for short Everest base camp treks are spring (March-May) and fall (September-November). These months offer the best combination of clear weather, moderate temperatures, and stunning mountain views. In these months, the days are warm while the nights are chilly, and good weather makes it perfect for trekking.

Many trekkers also choose to experience snowfall during the winter, but most of them avoid going in the winter due to low temperatures and more unpredictable weather. As for the summer/monsoon season, the desired adventure will not be achieved. You will have to face a lot of hindrances in this season because it rains frequently, and the paths will be wet, muddy, and moist. In addition to that, operating the helicopter service under difficult circumstances is risky. So we don’t recommend even short treks this season.

Food and Accommodation

This short trek to EBC includes a stay at several beautiful hotels and lodges that provide traditional Nepalese hospitality, coupled with delicious cuisine and comfortable sleeping quarters to give guests an unforgettable experience. At these hotels, you will find different choices of food items. The hotels provide local food items and also international cuisines like Continental, Indian, Italian, Chinese, and many more. Every night, you’ll enjoy traditional Nepalese cuisine cooked with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Fried rice, Chowmein, Macaroni, Dumplings, soup noodles, and other dishes are available for lunch and dinner. In these lodges, beverage items are also served, including Tea, Coffee, juice, and Energy Drinks.

Accommodation facilities are pretty good in these lodges. The rooms are provided to trekkers on a sharing basis. These rooms include a table, two beds, pillows, and a blanket. Only a few locations have attached restrooms and toilets. These lodges are clean and worth the price you pay. However, you must add extra charges for facilities like Wi-fi, showering, and Charging electronic devices.
