Best Season for Annapurna Panorama Trek

Annapurna panorama trek is a year-round thrilling trip. Still, the most favorable time for trekkers is the Spring season, from March to May, and the autumn season, from late September to early December. Both the spring and autumn days are featured with clear blue skies. The temperatures often vary between 10°C to 20°C during the day and 5°C at night. So the daytime temperature is often suitable for 5 to 6 hours of hiking.

If you are a nature enthusiast, then opt for spring. The landscape is adorned with full-bloomed rhododendrons and other wildflowers. During autumn, you may feel a chill in the air, but the luscious colors of the changing leaves often create a contrast image to the snowy mountains.

However, remember these two seasons are the busiest trekking season in Nepal. So, you can often encounter flocks of trekkers embarking on the same journey as you are.

If you are a lone traveler and wish to enjoy this trek in private, then the summer or winter season can be favorable for you. The summer season from June to August in Annapurna is accompanied by heavy rain and cloudy weather. In addition, you may face a few challenges, such as leeches, muddy trails and landslides, and road blockage. And in the winter season, from late December to February, you have to deal with heavy snowfall accompanied by freezing temperatures of -4 degrees, especially in the Poon Hill region.

However, with additional precautions and necessary equipment, you can overcome all these barriers and trek in both summer and winter. If you are willing to experience the unique thrill of the Annapurna panorama trek in winter and summer, our company is here for you. We will organize this trek with the best safety measures.

How Difficult is Annapurna Panorama Trek

Annapurna panorama trek is a relatively easy and short trek with the highest elevation gain at Poon Hill at 3210 m. generally, you will hike for 5 to 6 hours a day on average on each trekking day. You will have ample time to appreciate the surrounding periphery and spectacular grand views of the Himalayas. The trail is straightforward most of the time, but as you approach the famous Ghorepani Poon Hill trek trail, you will come across some steep ascents and descents.

Therefore, we advise you to carry a walking pole so you can have excellent stability and support in these narrow ridges. Otherwise, the Annapurna Panorama Trek is easy, you don’t require any technical knowledge. And you don’t need any experience of trekking and climbing. Therefore, this trek is appropriate for all those hikers who wish to experience the grandeur of the Nepali Himalayas with their own eyes and feet.

Altitude Sickness and guide

The highest altitude that you gain during the Annapurna Panorama trek is 3210 m at Poon Hill. So, you rarely experience altitude sickness on this trek. However, reaching more than 2400 m elevation, some hikers may feel the mild symptoms of altitude sickness. The trekker may suffer from nausea, headache, loss of appetite, and dizziness.

Therefore, you should adequately hydrate your body by drinking at least 3 to 4 liters of water each day. In addition, try to avoid smoking, alcohol, and soft drink consumption during the trek. Also, it would be beneficial if you control your food intake depending on the trekking duration of the day. Walk slowly and gradually when you are ascending and always listen to your guide. All these preventive measures will help you deal with altitude sickness.

If you feel you have some of those symptoms mentioned earlier, you can always inform your guide. Take Diamox (medicine for altitude sickness) if you have any of these symptoms. Keep in mind that Diamox is a diuretic drug, so adequate hydration of your body is a must.

As a popular saying goes, “prevention is better than cure.”, prepare your body with swimming, running, weight lifting, or climbing before embarking on this remarkable journey.

Travel Insurance

While the highest altitude gain in the Annapurna Panorama trek is just over 3000 m, we would still recommend you take travel insurance. After all, you will be crossing some steep ascents and descents on the trail. As you approach Poon Hill, you may also come up against extreme weather. You may also suffer from some potential health issues that may require emergency evacuation, which can be heavy on your pocket. Therefore, taking travel insurance when you embark on this journey is a must.

Proper travel insurance will take care of you in case of these risks. Ensure that your insurance coverage includes an altitude risk of above 3000 m. This way, your insurance can cover medical costs and evacuation costs, providing you with peace of mind.
