Best time for Mardi Himal Trek 5 Days

The best time for any trek in Nepal is the Autumn and Spring seasons. Mid-September to Mid December is the best time for the Mardi Himal Trek. During this season, the sky becomes clear, mornings and evenings get chilly, and it becomes perfect to trek during the day.

The snow-capped mountains look sharp and beautiful.

March to May is another perfect season for the Mardi Himal Trek. You can see Rhododendrons blooming and covering the entire hills. Also, the great white mountains look beautiful.

Monsoon is not the best time to trek. This region gets heavy rainfall, and there are lots of leeches on the trail.

December is the beginning of winter in Nepal. Trekking in Nepal in winter can be one of the best experiences. But due to heavy snowfall at higher altitudes, people have to return from high camp.

Foods and Accommodations

If you are trekking in the peak season, I suggest you pre-book accommodation during Mardi Trek. There are a limited amount of lodges and tea houses en route. All the lodges and tea houses provide proper accommodations with a hotbed and blankets.

You can get hot beverages and food in almost all tea houses en route to Mardi. The most common food is Dal Bhat (rice with lentil soup and curry), which can be found in all the lodges.

You can also get food like Pasta, noodles, and Pizza, in some lodges.

The cost of food is always more than that of accommodations while you trek in higher altitudes. And the same goes for water. There are no proper sources of water at higher altitudes. I suggest you carry water purifying tablets. Since bottled water gets expensive, you can fill tap water and purify it to drink.

Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty

There are very few steep climbs during the Mardi Himal Trek. But there are some before reaching the viewpoint. And the straight long descent towards the Siding can be difficult as well.

Altitude sickness is another threat during your trek. Although we do not acquire extreme altitude during this trek, one can still get altitude sickness. I suggest you visit your doctor before heading off towards Mardi.

If you do get altitude sickness, make sure you descend as soon as possible. Catch your breath and start walking at a slow pace. And if you need, take an extra day for acclimatization.

Mardi Himal Trek 5 days takes you through some of the most remote parts of Nepal for 4 days. You cannot find proper roads and transportation in such areas. The trekking trail is confusing in comparison to other trekkings. Therefore, it is recommended to take the Mardi Himal Trek map with you in case you lose your way.

The Mardi Himal Trek is moderately difficult, hence it is ideal for beginners.

Weather and Temperature

The weather remains perfect during the peak trekking season in Mardi. You get neither too hot nor too cold. The temperature ranges from 3 to 18 degrees Centigrade during the Autumn season. However, it might drop below 0 after mid-November.

Spring season might be slightly warmer than Autumn. The temperature might range from 3 to 20 degrees centigrade. The precipitation is almost 0, and the sky remains clear.

Winter in Mardi can be harsh. The higher altitudes get heavy snowfall, and it becomes difficult to cross High camp. The temperature at night gets below 0 degrees and can reach up to -7 degrees.

Permits

You need a permit to enter the Annapurna Conservation area. You also need a TIMS card (Trekker’s Information Management System). You can get both these permits in the Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

But booking this tour with us submits all such responsibilities to our team. We will take care of everything for you. All you need to do is enjoy your trip.

Your journey starts at Pokhara. We drive towards Kande from Pokhara and gain some altitude by road. It will take us one hour to get to Kande, and our trekking starts at Kande.

We start with a steep climb until we reach the Australian Base camp (2160m). We pass the Australian Base Camp with a stunning view of Mt. Fishtail and the Annapurna. And after a short pleasant hike, we will arrive at Pothana.

Deurali is the next stop after Pothana. We stay at Deurali for the night.

Day 02: Hike from Deurali to Low Camp (3150m)

Trekking hours: 7

Difficulty: Moderate

We start our day early after a lovely breakfast in Deurali. We will head towards Low camp today, which is a place with unmatched beauty.

The hike from Deurali to Low camp takes you through dense forest. After a few hours of trekking, we will reach Forest Camp (2900). We will have our lunch at the Forest camp surrounded by scenic beauty and mountains.

We continue walking further through woods and Rhododendron forest covered with wild ferns and moss. Walking through the calming forest and peaceful environment gives inner peace. We will reach Low camp after 3 to 4 hours from Forest camp.

We stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 03: Hike from Low Camp to High Camp (3700m)

Trekking hours: 5

Difficulty: Moderate

Our third day takes us above the clouds and closer to the mountains. We begin our day with a pleasant breakfast and ascend towards the Middle camp. After 1 hour of climbing through the Rhododendron forest, we arrive at Middle camp. Further ascending takes us to Baadal Danda (Hill above the clouds).

As the name suggests, this place is above the clouds. With stunning views of Hiuchuli, Annapurna south, and Mt. Fishtail, this place is beyond explanation. Further hike on top of a ridge and through grass, we reach High camp.

We stay overnight at high camp.

Day 04: Reach Mardi Base Camp and Hike to Siding (1800m)

Trekking hours: 9 hours

Difficulty: Challenging

We have to wake up early today. One cannot miss the sunrise from High camp. It is an extraordinary sight, which will remain in your heart and mind forever. After that, we start walking towards the base camp.

After a couple of steep climbs and a challenging rocky trail, we will reach the viewpoint at an altitude of 4200m. The view from up there is mindblowing. The beauty of Fishtail is unmatched. The view is even better than from the Base camp.

Walk along the Mardi ridge to arrive at the Mardi Base camp. You can get a proper view of Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, and Mardi. Embrace its beauty and head back towards High camp.

We get our bags, have lunch, and follow the trail toward Low camp.

The trail descends until you reach Siding. Upon reaching Low camp, we take a different route than before towards Siding.

The hike to Siding is challenging, not because of the trail itself, but because the harsh descent becomes challenging for your legs.

After a long and tiring day, we will finally reach Siding and stay at a Homestay. Homestays in Siding reflect typical Nepali culture, landscapes, and lifestyle.

Day 05: Drive back to Pokhara

Mornings in Siding are beautiful. The landscapes covered in different flowers look vibrant. A cup of tea with such a view is the perfect way to start your day. We can take a 4wd from Siding to Pokhara. Or we can trek to a small town Lumre, and drive to Pokhara.

Either way, the journey today takes you to some of the most beautiful places in these areas. There are waterfalls, rivers, and beautiful valleys. You can even see the viewpoint from yesterday. We will arrive at Pokhara after about 5 to 6 hours.

We will conclude our Mardi Himal Trek 5 days upon reaching Pokhara. Relax your mind and body in Pokhara with a chilled beer at the Lakeside. You can even visit Pame for a peaceful environment and delicious local fish.
