Langtang Tamang Heritage trekking is the combination of indigenous artistry and cultural heritage-based trek, where trekkers enjoy the traditional lifestyles, unique culture, craftsmanship, dresses, traditionally built houses, and breathtaking views of Himalayan vistas.

Tamang heritage treks offer beautiful panoramic views of Mt. Langtang Lirung, Jugal Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, Paldor pear, Manaslu, Shringi Himal, and many other mountains ranges.

Tamang Heritage Trek- Info

The Tamang Heritage trek is an ideal opportunity for those who enjoy nature, appreciate ancient cultures, and wish to walk calmly along the trails still new to tourism. Favorable for even an inexperienced trekker, this trek allows an ample chance to explore the mountainous region of Nepal. You can also enjoy some incredible visuals of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and the proximity of Tibet.

In our 7-day Tamang Heritage trek, we will walk through the Langtang National Park landmarks and villages. We will set foot through alpine terrain, green meadows, and beautiful forests of rhododendrons and bamboo.

We will explore the ancient Tamang settlements and have a first-hand experience of their warm hospitality. The people in these regions are little used to tourism and are still engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.

They take advantage of forest resources and are also engaged in trading with Kerung in Tibet. Since these villages are close to Tibetan borders, the influence of Tibetan culture and Buddhism is abundant in this region.

Our amazing journey of the Tamang Heritage trek begins with a drive to Syabrubeshi. Our trek begins with a hike to the villages of Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman, Timure, and Briddim. The highest point and attraction of this trek is reaching the Nagthali Danda situated at more than 3000 m elevation.

As we move on on these trails, we will also visit numerous Tamang monasteries and Parvatikunda Lake in Gatlang. Overall, this trek will fill you with adventure on the mountainous terrain and emotion through the friendliness and innocence of Tamang inhabitants.

This heritage area is connected to Tibet and the trial was used by ancient traders from Tibet bartering for salt and meat with foodstuffs from the south.

This Tamang heritage trek can trek whole round the year; however, the best season to trek in this region are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November).

Gosaikunda LakeTamang heritage trekking starts with a short and scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi. Then our real trek begins slowly from Goljung valley towards the beautiful village of Gatlang.

Then we ascend towards the beautiful village of Tatopani- a natural hot spring. Then our trail leads further upward to the Nagthali Danda which is a popular meditation center for local monks and priests.

Then we gradually trek down to Thuman. Thuman is one of the popular Tibetan influences in Tamang villages. Then we trek to Timure village which is an ancient trade route to Tibet.

langtang village in winter season

Best Season for the Tamang Heritage Trek

Our Tamang Heritage trek is a short and low-altitude trek that you can undertake in any season and month. But the most favorable season will be the dry and warm seasons of Spring and autumnMarch to May and September to November respectively. During these months, temperatures during the night and day are bearable with 20 degrees Celsius during the day to 5 degrees at night. The skies are clear, and the trails are dry and easier to follow.

The mountain views from Nagthali Danda come alive while the dense rhododendrons and bamboo forests add color to the panoramic beauty of the region.

However, expect heavy rainfall in June, July, and August days with foggy and cloudy skies. These summer days are long, with a maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. But monsoon rain in these months can bring out a lot of leeches along the trail with murky weather.

In winter from December to February, the days are clear and inviting, but the night cold can be harsh, especially in high-altitude villages. The Nagthali Dnada during winter is often clothed with a heavy layer of snow. But the views are splendid.

Our company will arrange all the right measures and preparation, so you can take this tour any time you want.

Tamang Heritage Trails Difficulty

The Tamang Heritage trek is a moderately difficult trek suitable for beginner trekkers with average physical and mental fitness. The trek is also suitable for all ages and abilities as there is no requirement for technical knowledge and complexities.

However, you will be constantly gaining experience till the fourth day of the trek. During the first three days, you will be hiking along the villages above 2000 m altitude. On the fourth day, you will climb the highest elevation of more than 3000 m at Nagthali Danda.

Therefore, some trekkers, especially the new hikers, are vulnerable to altitude sickness. In addition, you should be disposed to walk for 5 to 7 hours each day carrying modest backpacks. You will be walking through rocky mountainous terrain with steep uphill and downhill trails. Therefore, engaging in mild physical training such as swimming, running, and walking for 3 to 4 hours a day can help you complete this trek easily.

Altitude Sickness

There is less probability of altitude sickness in our 7-day Tamang Heritage trek. However, when trekking to an altitude of more than 2500 m above sea level, some may undergo, the mild symptoms of altitude or mountain sickness.

Therefore, stick to the itinerary designed by the company and drink plenty of fluids. Your body requires a large amount of water at higher altitudes to fend off the symptoms. So drink more water and fluids than you are used to.

Read about the symptoms of altitude sickness, and don’t ignore them even if you have mild symptoms. If you begin to experience headache, nausea, dizziness, and loss of sleep, inform your guide and descend to a lower altitude. Purchase Diamox tablets in Kathmandu; our guide also carries the medicine in his first aid kit.

This medicine helps stimulate breathing and increases oxygen levels in the blood. Remember that Diamox is not an immediate solution for altitude sickness, but it will speed up your acclimatization process and relieve symptoms. It may need a day or two, so take steps slowly and ascend gradually.

We also advise you to refrain from alcohol consumption and, smoking, heavy food intake.

What to expect on this Tamang Heritage trip?

Tamang Heritage Trek will take you through the trail that you should do with an open heart without rushing to an end. The trek will traverse you through the wonderous Langtang National Park. It will give you an ample chance to spot its amazing flora and fauna at your own pace, such as Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, wild dog, Himalayan Thar, red panda, goral, musk deer, etc. You will also get the sight of more than 250 species of birds here.

As you progress to your destination, you will have magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Sishapangma, and many more. The local houses and lodges with wooden roofs will welcome you with a big heart. At Gatlang, you will experience religious emotion as you visit the famous Parvati Kunda Lake, located at 2550 m above sea level.

As you reach Tatopani, you can take a hot bath in natural hot springs with spectacular views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang mountain ranges. At Nagthali Danda, treat your eyes to the picturesque sight of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, and Sanjen mountain range.

In addition, you will be able to observe the ancient Buddhist tradition and people engaging in their everyday rural way of life. You can see many young children running around and playing happily. Some may be working in the fields, and some may be herding yaks and goats or carrying firewood. You may also see a woman working on the field carrying her baby on her back, tied with a shawl.

And if your travel coincides with their festival, you can witness these indigenous people in their colorful attire dancing in a circle with the musicians playing traditional handcrafted instruments.

Let’s not forget about the opportunity to take a tour of the beautiful UNESCO Heritage Site Kathmandu. This tour, on the one hand, will take you back to century-old architecture while, on the other hand, it will also give you glimpses of Western cultural influence.

Accommodation, Food, and Transportation

In our Tamang Heritage trek tour, we ensure you have the best level of comfort and safety during the entire trek. We will take care of your accommodation, food, and transportation during the entire trek. When leaving Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi, we will drive you in a private bus or jeep (depending on the group size). So you will have a comfortable ride of 7 to 8 hours to this small town.

As for accommodation, in our 7-day trip, we will provide six nights of twin share accommodation in the best lodgings in each village where we will spend the night.

However, remember, in the peak season of spring and autumn, you may have to share a room with other fellow travelers along with toilets and a dining room. In the villages of Gatlang, Thuman, Briddim, and Syabrubesi, you can have the luxury of a hot shower and running water, for which the lodge owner may charge an extra cost. As you move forward in high altitude, bucket showers may be the only option.

We will also provide all the meals during the entire trek. We will be providing six breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 6 dinners chosen from the lodge menu. You can enjoy some authentic local dishes such as Tibetan bread, Tsampa porridge, Thukpa, and Momos. You can also try some local alcoholic beverages such as Chhyang or raksi.
