Overview of Arun Valley Trekking

Arun Valley Trek offers the chance to witness a number of other significant views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Amadablam, Mt. Thamserku and many other similar mountains. Rai, Sherpa and Limbu community and culture can be enjoyed on the route. Arun Valley is blessed with an incredible diversity of natural beauty and culture.

The Arun Valley trek also provides opportunity to witness Mt. Makalu and Mt. Everest from a close range. The trek requires stamina and fitness to fully appreciate the beauty of the region.

The Arun valley is located between Sagarmatha National Park and Makalu Barun National Park in the Sankhuwasava district; it is the deepest valley of the world and is pulled out between the highest peak of the world Mt. Everest.

Arun Valley Trek descends to the deep gorge of the stunning Arun Valley. The Arun Valley is lush, green oasis; rich in bird life and first few days provide a captivating distinction to high mountain scape as we approach Mera. From Panch Pokhari track descends to Hunku River, a complete rough country trail.

The views along this section are superb. Towards the east is the Kanchenjunga and Jannu. To the north, the views of Hunku and Hongu dominate.

The trail continues to Thangnag (4366m) from where we move to Khare (5108m) where we establish the base cam leading to Mera La (5415m). Our return will take us south, down to the Hunku Drangka before turning west to cross the Zattrawa La to the mountain airstrip at Lukla. From here we will fly back to Kathmandu the following day to a remarkable end.

Arun Valley Trekking Itinerary

day 01 Fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar.

Today we fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. Then we drive by bus to Hille observing all around the amazing sceneries of plain land. Hille is a Tibetan community where we will stay overnight.

day 02 Trek from Hille to Mangmaya Khola.

We move on from Hille, we will have a long day hiking path to reach Mangmaya Khola. Reaching our destination today.

day 03 Wildlife Trek to Arun Valley.

Today we move ahead of the Mangmaya Khola which is enormous region for watching bird, monkeys and other wild animals. And, moving down you can feel breezy weather throughout the trek which gives you a sense of beauty of Arun valley.

day 04 Trek Down to Tumlingtar while exploring the Makalu Area.

We will hike downward to Tumlingtar. Tumlingtar is the main entranceway to the Makalu area that stretches diagonally to a wide plateau near the meeting point of the Arun River and Sabha Khola.

day 05 Trekking Along the Arun River From Tumlingtar to Kartike.

From Tumlingtar, we descend down passing fields to reach Kumal Gaon, on the edge of a broad plateau. We walk alongside the Arun River traversing bridge to the village of Bheteni. We walk all the way through the sub tropical forest, the path moves further to the south along the bank of Arun via a chain of small Chettri, Rai and Brahman villages. After that, we will reach a vivacious village Kartike where we set our camp.

day 06 Trek Along the Arun Koshi to Gothey Bazaar.

Today, we pass through the fields and then walk among terraced rice pastures on the coast of the Arun Koshi; in due course we will reach the petite village of Balawa Besi (3200m). We will see the first glance of the verdant Arun valley. Then the moves along the north shore of the Irkhuwa Khola all the way through a steamy scenery of rice porches and banana farms to Gothey Bazaar.

day 07 Trek Through Tendor and Tallo Phedi.

Today, we will walk through the villages of Tendor and Tallo Phedi where we will witness slate-roofed houses and thick forest. Our path move further, following the bottom of the Irkhuwa valley, crossing the river on a shaky bamboo bridge. Then we take the path moving over the Sanu Khola to Phedi.

day 08 Trek to Thulo Fokte.

Today we move toward the village of Thulo Fokte lying at an elevation of 2140m. Crossing temperate stone path, we will climb up to the forest of birch, oak, rhododendron and more we will arrive at tiny stone village of Gurase.

day 09 Trek from Gurase to Sanam.

Today, we move further ahead from Gurase and pass through a rhododendron forest spotted with stupas and Mani walls. Passing the region surrounded by fir and hemlock forests and is flourished with birds and wild lives, we will then come across the hillside and all the way through the damp forest to Sanam.

day 10 Trek from Sanam to Bung.

Leaving Sanam, we move down via the forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines, we will reach the forested valley further on from Gudel (1900m). It is an outstanding Rai valley of whitewashed houses. The main track drops passing a muddle of rice, soybean and millet terraces to reach the village of Bung.

day 11 Trek from Bung to Gaikharka.

Today, from Bung we will pass Najindingma village which lies at an altitude of 2650m. We will see the area of grassland and damp forests, we will reach Gaikharka. We’ll have amazing views of grassy terraces and speckled farmhouses.

day 12 Trek from Gaikharka to Sibuje.

Trekking forward from Gaikharka we pass via a moist, ferny jungle, we witness two stunning waterfalls and the track begins to rise vertically to the valley of Sibuje, also recognized as Vasme and Chatuk.

day 13 Trek to Pangum La.

We leave Vasme to reach uphill where you’ll view pocket sized village Gompa. We will get to Pangum La pass, taking pleasure of the grand views of Mera Peak and Khumbu Himalaya. Then, we have a short climb to Pangum Gompa

day 14 Trek to Kari La.

Today we will trek down and then up to Kari La . Our trail then moves down again to the Arun Valley path that joins the way from Jiri just before Puiyan village.

 Verified An Incredible Trek with the Best Team!
I completed the Manaslu Circuit with Saugat and Aunil, and it was an absolutely incredible experience! The trek was breathtaking, the organization was perfect, and the views were simply stunning. Saugat’s knowledge, professionalism, and expertise as a guide, together with Aunil’s help, kindness, and support as a porter, made the whole experience even more special. I couldn’t have asked for a better team! I will definitely come back to Nepal, and I will choose this agency, Saugat, and Aunil again without hesitation. 10 stars for my new friends! A life changing experience! Milan and Bhim were the best guide and porter for our very first trek in the Himalayas. Although the weather wasn’t always on our side, we got to see the most spectacular views, stayed in the best hotels/ camps and definitely got to tick off an item on the bucket list. Thanks to Life Himalaya Trekking, my husband and I were able to realize a dream. From the moment of organizing from Italy, Shiba proved to be extremely available and quick in communications. And, once here, we were able to immediately verify how efficient the entire team that makes up the company is. Shiba is infinitely sweet and friendly; he pampered us, guiding us through all the organizational aspects of our trip, from the trek to Everest Base Camp to cultural visits in Kathmandu and surroundings, covering all types of transportation we needed. Thanks to him, we had the pleasure of spending our time in Nepal with unique people, who allowed us to get to know this wonderful country and its inhabitants up close. Tika was our guide during the hike to EBC, and thanks to him and our porter Podam, we experienced a wonderful and authentic adventure! Both very knowledgeable, they were excellent at taking care of us, thanks to their attention to even the small things, the advice and information they provided us, but especially due to their friendliness, which allowed us to approach even the most difficult situations with ease. Tika is an exceptional entertainer and a great photographer; he was our family for more than a week, and we are very grateful to him. The entire experience of reaching Everest Base Camp was all-encompassing; it captivated us in every aspect, both scenic and human. It was exciting to reach the destination after a journey that lasted about a week. But it was equally incredible and moving to fly by helicopter from Gorak Shep to Lukla, retracing from above every step taken and every place experienced during the previous days. We would like to thank Promot, Raj, Rajan, and especially our exceptional tour guide Ajya, who accompanied us through the most iconic places in Kathmandu, sharing their history and every cultural aspect. The passion and love for one's work allowed us to immerse ourselves in a world that, otherwise, we would have understood and experienced only halfway. We were extremely satisfied with our Everest Base Camp trek with Life Himalaya Trekking. From the moment we were picked up at the airport, everything was organized perfectly. Due to weather conditions, the company arranged a helicopter flight for us, which made the start of our adventure even more special. Our guide, Rabin, was exceptional. He was kind, caring, and looked after us every step of the way. Whenever we felt unwell, he made sure we were comfortable and helped us recover. His knowledge of the mountains, careful approach to acclimatization, and genuine care for our well-being allowed us to continue the journey safely. Most importantly, he treated us like family, making the entire trek feel like a trip with friends rather than a guided tour. Our porter, Arjun, was equally amazing. He was always cheerful, funny, and incredibly helpful. During acclimatization hikes and challenging moments, he even helped with our backpacks when we were struggling. His positive attitude made every day more enjoyable. Both Rabin and Arjun are true gems and a huge asset to the company. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us. A special thank you also goes to Shiba, the owner of Life Himalaya Trekking. He was friendly, professional, and made our experience truly special from beginning to end. I also had a unique experience during this trip as I participated in the Everest Marathon.  Verified Awesome experience with Life Himalayan
I had a wonderful time trekking EBC. Birsha Rai was an awesome guide he made sure I had anything I needed. He made sure my accommodations were good and I had plenty of water and snacks for the trek. Dhan Kajl was my porter and he took extra care of my things my bag was always clean and dry when delivered to my room. He even carried my day pack the last stretch of EBC trek. Life Himalayan took care of me from the moment I landed and was without one bag to making sure I made all my helicopter connections. Someone was there every step of the way. I am so grateful that I chose to travel with Life Himalayan. Thank you! 😊

Life Himalaya Trekking gave us an amazing experience! We had the most wonderful guide, Jal Tamang. Not only did he provide amazing conversation, high spirits, and tons of great information about the Everest region, he went above and beyond when a member of our party got altitude sickness. He worked tirelessly to bring food & water to them during their hospital stay, but also coordinated their time in Lukla after they had had to descend. I still made it to Base Camp, and throughout our journey he made the entire experience unforgettable. The accommodations were also truly top notch, with the earlier tea houses offering hot showers, readily available charging, and even heating pads under the mattresses. What a beautiful experience! Life Himalaya trekking and their team are truly great. Our guide Rabin Ray is a mountain professional. He took great care of us throughout the journey. Our porter Tik as well, always there to help us. Shiba, the owner, is a professional and he makes sure to meet us and ensure that everything goes well before our departure.
