Mount Everest (8,848 m), Nepal

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world which lies in Nepal. Mt Everest is located in Nepal standing on the Nepal-China border. The official height of Mt. Everest is 8,848 meters (29,029 ft) above sea level.

Mount Everest is known as “Sagarmatha” in Nepal and “Chhomolongma” in Tibet. The name Everest is an honour of George Everest. Everest is an easier climbing peak compared to other tallest peaks. Mt. Everest was first summated by Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand climbers Mr. Edmond Hillary with a British expedition in 1953 from the South Col route.

Mount K2 (8,611 m), Pakistan

Mount K2 is the second highest mountain in the world. K2 is the tallest after Mount Everest and lies in Pakistan. Mt K2 is located in the Karakoram Range of the Himalayas in northern Pakistan. The second peak of the Karakoram range is the highest peak in Pakistan named as K2.

The peak is “Savage Mountain” due to the difficulty of ascent and the second-highest fatality rate among the eight thousands peaks. K2 was completed by an Italian expedition team which was led by Mr. Ardito Desiofinally on July 31, 1954.

Mount Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), Nepal

The third highest mountain located in Nepal lies on India- Nepal border in eastern Nepal. Mount Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain with a height of 8,586 m (28,169 ft). Kangchenjunga is the highest peak in India, and also the name of the surrounding section of the Himalayas and means “The Five Treasures of Snows”, as it contains five peaks. The treasures represent the five repositories of God, which are gold, silver, gems, grain, and holy books.

Mount Kanchenjunga is the easternmost highest mountain on Himalayan range. British Expedition team lead by Mr. Joe Brown and George Band first ascended on 25 May, 1955 over the Kanchanjunga peak.

Mount Lhotse (8,516 m), Nepal

Mount Lhotse with the height of 27,940 ft/8,516 m is the fourth highest mountain in the world. It lies in Nepal. The peak is connected with Mount Everest via the South Col. In Tibetan language Lhotse means “South Peak”. In addition to the main summit at 8,516 metres (27,940 ft) above sea level, Lhotse Middle (East) is 8,414 metres (27,605 ft) and Lhotse Shar is 8,383 metres (27,503 ft). It is located at the border between Tibet (China) and the Khumbu region of Nepal.

Lhotse is registered as one of the most extremely difficult climbs and is rarely attempted.

Mount Lhotse was first climbed on 18 May,1956 by Mr. Fritz Luchsinger and Ernst Reiss from Switzerland. Mt. Lhotse is becoming famous for its tremendous and dramatic South face. The South face rises 3.2 km and is 2.25 km wide making it the steepest face of this size in the world.

Mount Makalu (8,481 m), Nepal

Mount Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world with a height of 8,481 metres (27,825 ft). It is located in Nepal 19 km (12 mi) southeast of Mount Everest. It is located between Everest and Kanchenjunga. The South East Ridge and the Northwest Ridge are the main climbing routes on Mt. Makalu.

Mount Makalu was first climbed by an American team led by William Siri in the spring of 1954.

Mount Cho-Oyu (8,201 m.), Nepal

Mount Cho-Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world. It is located on the Nepal-China border in Nepal. In Tibetan language Cho Oyu means “Turquoise Goddess”. The mountain is the westernmost major peak of the Khumbu sub-section of the Mahalangur Himalaya 20 km west of Mount Everest.

Mount Cho Oyu is known as the easiest mountain peak of the 8,000 meter peaks due to its straightforward approach and lack of objective dangers. Mount Cho-Oyu was first climbed on October 19, 1954 by Australian Joseph Joechler, Herbert Tichy (Italy), Pasang Dawa Lama (Nepal).

Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 m.), Nepal

Mount Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in Nepal. Dhaulagiri has a height of 26,795 feet /8,167 meters. It is located just north of central Nepal. The name Dhaulagiri comes from the Sanskrit word. Dhawala means “Dazzling, White Beautiful” and Giri means “Mountain” in Sanskrit.

The normal climbing route for Dhaulagiri is the Northeast ridge. Mount Dhaulagiri was first climbed by an Austrian, Swiss and Nepali expedition on May 13, 1960.

Mount Manaslu (8,163m), Nepal

Mount Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain located in Nepal. It is located in the Mansiri Himal in the west-central part of Nepal. Manaslu means “Mountain of the Spirit”, comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa, meaning “intellect” or “soul”.

The mountain was first climbed by a Japanese expedition team on May 9, 1956 by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu. It is usually a first choice for adventure climbers looking to climb an 8000m peak.

Mount Nanga Parbat (8,126m.), Pakistan

Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest mountain in the world located in Pakistan. Nanga Parbat, with a height of 26,660 feet (8,126 meters) was known as “Killer Mountain” till the first half of the twentieth century.

Now however, it is less dangerous to climb, but still very difficult. It is located on the southern side of the Indus River in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Mount Nanga Parbat was climbed by an Australian Hermann Bahl in 1953.

Mount Annapurna (8,091 m.), Nepal

Mount Annapurna I is the tenth highest mountain in the world. Annapurna himalayan range is a series of peaks. The Annapurna massif contains six major peaks, Annapurna I (8091m/26,545ft) Annapurna II(7937m/26,040ft) Annapurna III(7555m/24,786ft) Annapurna IV (7525m/24,688ft)  Gangapurna (7455m/24,457ft) Annapurna South (7219m/23,684ft). Annapurna I, with a height of 26,545 ft /8,091 m is the highest among others.

Mount Annapurna is some of the world’s most dangerous to climb. The fatality rate of climbing is about forty percent. Maurice Herzog & Louis Lachenal climbed for the first time on June 3, 1950.
