April is the time when spring blooms happily in Nepal. The spring season in Nepal starts right after winter and ends before the monsoon. The days are warm and moderate, while evenings can become a bit windy sometimes. Also, the minimal precipitation with the dry environment makes April one of the most suitable seasons to trek in Everest base camp. During April, the temperature rises to a maximum of 25°C and lowers up to a minimum of -15°C. The sunny afternoons and comfortable temperature attract a massive number of tourists in April.
Besides the weather, another significant aspect that affects the trekking journey is the wind rate in Nepal. However, the wind speed is also very average, i.e. 14 km/hr(roughly eight mph) during April in the Everest base camp trail.
But, as you start to elevate upwards, the temperature starts getting unpredictable and drops down dramatically. As you move upwards from Lukla to Dingboche, the altitude rises to an approximate height of 4500 meters. The higher you go, the more the temperature starts to decline.

The duration of Everest Base Camp Trek varies from one itinerary to the other, but generally, it takes 12-16 days. On average, trekkers walk for 7 to 8 hours per day throughout the trek. You would not require any technical skills as such to trek to Everest Base Camp. But, the way is quite sloppy and steep, and some may find it difficult to walk through.
Kaala Patthar (5,555m) is the highest vantage point of the trek. The trail consists of many altering sections that make the journey thrilling and challenging.

There are no risks of avalanche or snowfall as April has pleasant weather for trekking. The wind speed during April is also quite normal in the Everest Base Camp region, so you need not worry about weather or temperature playing spoilsport anywhere.
The rapid exposure to low amounts of oxygen at high elevation adds risks of Mountain Sickness. To avoid altitude sickness, it is suggested to not trek more than 600 m of altitude at any day throughout the trek. Hence, Everest Base Camp Trek in April is arduous in difficulty.
The purchase of travel insurance will get you prepared and assured both economically and mentally. Before you decide to explore the higher altitudes of Nepal, it is better to get yourself a travel insurance that covers at least 5000 meters of the helicopter rescue operation.

You would require the TIMS(Trekkers’ Information Management System) permit to trek in Nepal. It would cost you around 20 US$ for the local permits, which are issued by Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu/Monjo, or you can opt out for Sagarmatha National Park permit, which would cost you roughly around 30 US$.
It is always the best idea to hire an experienced guide who can help you explore the peaks in safer ways. The guides can also help you with the knowledge on rock climbing, how to walk on icy pathways, techniques of using the rope knots, and any other dangers that can be prevented.
Always try to travel with a guide. If not, at least trek with someone from the community who has been to the peak before. Follow their instructions and stay on route. Don’t overlook their advice. Know that they have been there before and know how things work.
