Everest Base Camp is widely known and listed high up on the bucket list of many adventure seekers around the world. Everest base camp is a go-to classical package in the ‘land of Himalayas’. There are different mediums/routes to view Mount Everest. Situated between the rocky and snowy peaks of the high Himalayas, Everest Base Camp is visited by thousands of people every year. Most tourists prefer to trek to Everest base camp. On the contrary, nowadays helicopter tours are also an emerging way to visit Everest base camp.
Everest base camp is situated approximately at the elevation of 5,364m or 17,598ft. Due to the avalanche and glacier melt the tent of the cams keep on switching places. There are no accommodation facilities for trekkers in Everest Base Camp. The tents are mostly used by climbers and health personnel. The trail to Everest base camp, however, starts from Lukla “Gateway to Everest” (2860m/9383ft).
Even though the higher altitude of Everest region is mostly barren and rocky with small bushes and shrubs at some places. And, the lower region is mostly tropical vegetation with evergreen trees. For instance, some of the trees found are Pines, Fir, different species of Rhododendron (the national flower of Nepal), birch, etc.
The Everest region of Nepal is home to different species of valuable animals and birds. Those species of fauna make Everest trekking a better experience.
Some of the animals found are yaks, Himalayan goats, thars, and musk deer. Besides that, At a lucky moment, rare species like red pandas and snow leopards can be spotted at a far distance.
Along with that, species of birds like Rosefinch, Red-billed chough, Lophophorus/Himalayan monal(National bird of Nepal), Golden, etc can be seen around on the trees or flying high above the mighty Himalayas.
Even though Everest Base Camp can be visited any time of the year, March-May (Spring) and October -November (Autumn) are two of the best times to visit Everest Base Camp.
Firstly, in the spring season, the snow melts and the glazes on the mountains. As well as the new bloom of various trees provides a mesmerizing view of the amazing Himalayan landscapes.
Secondly, in autumn, mild temperature with less wind makes trekking easier. Good visibility and fewer chances of snow make this season one of the best times to visit Everest.
Despite being one of the best trekking destinations in Nepal, people find it crowded during the season time. So to avoid the crowd in most places there are different side treks and alternate trails. Everest Base Camp Trek requires a certain level of physicality and mentality. It is not as hard as compared to the final day of Kilimanjaro. The Everest Base Camp Trek is categorized as moderate to hard because of its high altitude. Besides that, Life Himalaya follows the principle of climbing high and sleeping low during the trek if possible. Performing this method helps to acclimatize easier and faster, lowering the risk of high altitude sickness.

After the pandemic, the Everest region has hardly been visited. Everest region has opened normally after vaccination normally following necessary safety protocols. In case of a guest is not vaccinated a PCR test will be done upon arrival and if the results are negative they can continue their trek from the second day. If they are vaccinated and come with the reports and pre-visa then they can continue without doing PCR tests and quarantine.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,320 m/4,330 ft.) and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02: Fly to Lukla (2,804 m/ 9,200 ft.) & trek to Monjo (2,835 m/9,301 ft.) in 4-5 hrs. Walking Distance: 13 km
Day 03: Trek from Monjo to Namche Bazaar, Rest day at Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,286 ft.) 3-4 hrs. Walking Distance: 6 km
Day 04: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,867 m/12,686 ft.) 5-6 hrs. Walking Distance: 11 km
Day 05: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,350m/14,272 ft.) 5-6 hrs. Walking Distance: 12 km
Day 06: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4,930 m/16,170 ft.) 5-6 hrs. Walking Distance: 9 km
Day 07: Trek to Gorak Shep (5,170 m/16,961 ft.) and hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m/17,598 ft.). Hike to Kalapathar and fly back to Lukla (2,804 m/ 9,200 ft.). 6-8 hrs. Walking Distance: 13 km
Day 08: Fly back to Kathmandu (1,320 m/4,330 ft.) and transfer to hotel and free day. 35 min.
Day 09: Farewell and Departure
The first day of the trek begins with the thrilling and jaw-dropping 30 minutes flight to Lukla(2860m). Starting from the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport (1300m approx.), it lands on a narrow runway. At the end of the runway awaits a high hill making the landing one of the most shivering and dangerous in the world. Amazing landscapes, villages, as well as vegetation, can be observed through the small window of the twin otter plane during the flight.
Namche Bazaar ‘The Sherpa capital of Everest’ is one of the entertaining places to stay on the trek. The tourist hub of Everest is home to different local and international branded shops to provide ethnic local, Tibetan, and foreign goods and services. Market fairs are arranged on the weekend where Tibetan and local goods, clothes, and foods are exhibited. The cluster of houses and lodges and small hiking places makes it one of the popular places for acclimatization. Kongde Ri and Thamserku are two of the famous peaks around Namche Bazaar. The houses are lodges built upon the sidewalls of the hills. The whole Namche Village can be observed from the hilltop.
Furthermore, situated at a height of 3440m Namche is accessible from Phakding in a 4-5 hrs walk. Crossing dense forests and different suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi river hike to Namche is a steep climb. You get the first view of Everest for the first time between the woods while hiking. Accordingly, TIMS permits and National park permits are also checked near Monjo in between Phakding and Namche.
Firstly, the height of Kalapathar (black rock in Nepali) is 5,545 m. This is the topmost point while visiting the Base Camp of Mt.Everest. Also, it is the highest place reachable without a climbing permit. Kalapathar is famous to view panoramic sunrise views of the Khumbu mountain region as well as the Khumbu glacier. Some of the other popular peaks seen are Lhotse, Pumori, and Nuptse.
