Overview of Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar Luxury Tour – 14 days

If you are a demanding traveler seeking a comfortable way to reach Kailash, then our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour is the one made for you.

Life Himalaya Trekking has come up with an exclusive Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour itinerary just for you, with overnight stays planned in deluxe hotels and very comfortable lodges chosen along the way, which in the Kailash region truly deserve the label of Luxury.

We have also selected arguably the most scenic route via Kerung for our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour, making the journey even more mystical.

Mount Kailash (6638 m above sea level), situated along the lonely trails of Ngari in Western Tibet, stands as the ultimate destination for billions of Buddhists, Hindus, Bons, and Jains.

This perpetual peak is the holy home and meditation center of Lord Shiva for Hindus. It is the sacred residence of Buddha Demchok for Buddhists, while for Jains and Bons, it is the very Summit where their religion took the form.

The sun-shaped pristine freshwater Lake Mansarovar (4560 m above sea level) is also equally sacred for the pilgrims. After all, it is the holy creation of God Brahma, rich with the divine blessing of Goddess Parvati, beloved wife of Lord Shiva.

It is also the Lake of Motherly Compassion for Buddhists, which is the very location where Queen Maya Devi bathed after Buddha’s birth.

Thus, every year, countless pilgrims wait eagerly for the opening of the luxury Mount Kailash tour to seek blessings, to pay their gratitude, to cleanse themselves spiritually, and to make a connection with the spiritual center of the Universe.

We are also guiding you to this very esoteric and spiritual journey in our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour, which enables you to walk around Kailash and Mansarovar for three straight days.

Particularly, the circular way around Kailash is a 53 km loop that offers a rare view of its north face. Together with devotees and other tourists from around the world, we will take this three-day trek and walk clockwise around Kailash.

This journey is called Kora by Buddhists and Parikrama by Hindus. The highest altitude you will encounter on our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour is at Dolma La Pass (5630 m), which is thought to lead to a new life.

Important as it is, undertaking the Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour in 2026 is going to be especially significant as it marks the start of the Fire Horse, which occurs every 60 years.

Thus, the upcoming year for the luxury Kailash tour via Kerung will be a very rare and spiritually meaningful time. After all, you will be earning 13 times more merit of the Kailash Parikrama than in a regular year.

So we encourage you not to miss the Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour in 2026; otherwise, you will have to wait for another 60 years for this opportunity. This tour is a moderate challenge, favorable in spring and autumn in Tibet.

If you desire, we can also arrange for your Lake Mansarovar parikrama on a bus or jeep, which may take around 2 to 3 hours. After finishing the parikrama of Lake Mansarovar, we will then proceed to the starting point of the Kailash parikrama: the town of Darchen.

This small town of tents and houses is located on the northern edge of the Barkha Plain and is now equipped with comfortable lodges. Once in the lodge, our Tibetan guide will then explain to us our program of the parikrama.

Upon request, he will also organize the horse and porter for us to circumnavigate the Kailash, who will meet us the next day at the Tarboche Gate.

From today on, the first day of parikrama around Kailash begins. From Darchen, the immense region of Ngari will drive us for a short while to Tarboche Gate.

At this gate, pilgrims gather every year during the Saga Dawa Festival to raise the new flagpole and walk around it. This very gate also stands as the Yama Dwara for Hindus, guarded by Yama, the deity of Death.

We will circle the gate and proceed through it, where we will meet our hired horses and porters. The further journey will advance us to the historic Sky Cremation Site.

We will then get into the intense, barren rocky terrain of the Lhachu Valley and pass by the Chuku Gompa Monastery, also known as the House of the Lucky Stone, high above the cliff.

The ascent will continue, leading us slowly to Dirapuk Monastery situated right beneath the immense north wall of Kailash. The lodge here is pretty basic and themed with hostel-like sleeping arrangements.

Our guide will, however, try to accommodate you in a new government-built, very comfortable guesthouse in the vicinity. Please note that in the high parikrama season, we may also need to sleep inside the tent.

Trek from Dirapuk (4,920 m) to Zutulpuk (4,790 m) via Dolma La Pass (approx. 5,630 m) – approx. 22 km, 8–9 hrs.

Brace yourselves for the very important, yet toughest and prolonged day of our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour. A 550 m ascent followed by a 600 m sharp descent over the Dolma La Pass awaits us today.

From Dirapuk, the sharp rocky landscape will slowly start to transform into a glacial valley. We will pass by Jarok Dokhang and reach Shiva Tsal Cemetery at 5330 m.

This is the point where pilgrims customarily leave their old items, showing their readiness to accept a new beginning in their lives. We will also leave our old belongings, probably old clothes, nail, hair, or a drop of blood.

Gradually, chanting the mantra, we will climb the high rocky slope and reach the summit of the Dolma La Pass. Decorated by the massive pile of prayer flags, this pass is also called the home of the Goddess Green Tara.

After offering our prayers and hanging a prayer flag, we will now descend from the other side and reach Gauri Kunda glacial lake. At 5608 m, the lake is also called the Tuksche Tso or Thukpe Dzingbu.

We may see many pilgrims bathing here, but we discourage you from doing so due to hypothermic risks. We will keep climbing down sharply and pass through the Axe of Karma, which literally cuts our connection with our old karmic sins.

Now, the route is forgiving and leveled out, taking us to Zutulpuk.

Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar Luxury Tour – 14 days Trip Information

Our Planned Itinerary for Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar Luxury Tour

To begin our luxury Mount Kailash tour, you will fly from your home and reach Kathmandu, where you will spend a few days arranging for the Visa and exploring the site.

Then, you will journey through the Himalayas on the serpentine road and cross the Nepal-Tibet border. The wide, barren land and high plateaus of Tibet will lead you to Lake Mansarovar, where, with the unique meditative scenery, you will engage in an early morning devotional ritual.

Next, you will reach Darchen, from where you will spend three days circumnavigating the sacred mountain along an ancient pilgrimage path. The parikrama will culminate at Darchen.

After finishing the outer parikrama of Kailash, you will retrace your steps to Kathmandu via Kerung.

Spiritual Significance of Luxury Mount Kailash Tour in 2026

2026 is the Year of the Horse, and more specifically, it is the year of the Fire Horse. Horse Year occurs every 12 years, while the Fire Horse year occurs only every 60 years.

The Horse Year is considered so vital because it is seen as the birth year of Shakyamuni Buddha and also a time when divine energies gather at the sacred mountain. It is also regarded as the birth year of Mount Kailash.

The Kailash parikrama in normal years brings great merit, but doing so in the Horse Year is believed to multiply this merit by 13 times.

For Hindus, the horse holds a special place that symbolizes power, royalty, loyalty, speed, and solar energy. Mythologically, the horse has appeared in the seven-headed Uchchaihshravas, pulling Surya Dev’s chariot.

Therefore, completing the Kailash Parikrama in this blessed year is believed to bestow the pilgrims with Kailash’s blessing, allow them to gather good karma, and deepen their connection with the energy of Kailash.

Best season for Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar Luxury Tour

The best time for the Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour is from May to October. The steady climate, the mild, pleasing temperature, and the melted snow on the trail make this time excellent for the tour.

In spring (March to May), and autumn of September, October, and November, the air will be very crisp, visibility will be clearest with daytime temperature from 5°C to 15°C (and drop to 0°C to -7°C at night).

During the summer monsoon of June, July, and August, the air in Tibet will have more oxygen, and monsoon rain rarely interferes with the trek. This will also be the busiest time in the Horse Year 2026, when daytime heat can be from 6°C to 20°C.

The winter months of November, December, January, and February see the luxury Mount Kailash tour close due to extremely low temperatures and stormy winds.

Please keep in mind that most groups of Hindu pilgrims will arrive in Kailash on the full moon days of June, July, and August. Also in 2026, the Saga Dawa festival falls on May 31st.

So if you like to avoid the crowd, choose May, September, or October for our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour.

Luxury Kailash Mansarovar Tour via Kerung Difficulty Grade

The entire luxury Kailash Mansarovar tour via Kerung is viewed as a moderately challenging journey rated as Grade III with the extreme altitude of the Dolma La Pass at 5630 m.

However, the three-day trek along the old pilgrimage route around Kailash is regarded as a very demanding journey due to the harsh, barren terrain that quickly transforms into icy glacial conditions.

The second day will be particularly tough, requiring a sharp ascent and descent for 8 to 9 hours, with an elevation gain of over 500 m and a descent of 600 m.

As for the driving route through Tibet, the roads are in good condition, but the real challenge comes from the high altitude and the lack of oxygen in the air.

However, our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour has been designed that will offer you enough time for acclimatization. Be ready for two nights of modest living conditions at Dirapuk and Zutulpuk.

Who can join our Luxury Mount Kailash Tour?

According to the age guidelines set by the Tourism Bureau of Tibet, people between 10 and 75 years old are permitted to join our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour.

As for Indian pilgrims, they need to be between 18 and 70 years of age to be eligible for participation. However, please keep in mind that you should be fit, healthy, and accustomed to walking in high altitudes.

If you are not unfamiliar with the high-altitude mountain terrain above 4000 m, and if you are not in good physical shape, then you should consider your participation in our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour.

For those who fear flying, this tour will be excellent for you to go to Kailash.

We, however, do not recommend people with hypertension, circulatory, respiratory, or muscular disorders to take part in our tour unless you have a doctor’s approval.

Altitude Sickness/Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS and Acclimatization

We won’t sugarcoat the truth for our pilgrims by saying there is no risk of AMS in our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour.

You will be spending several nights at altitudes between 3000 and 4500 m, where the oxygen levels are automatically less (by 35%) compared to sea level.

Additionally, the air is dry, the terrain is barren, and the weather can change unexpectedly throughout the day.

However, we can assure you that over many years of taking our guests to Kailash, most of our travelers haven’t encountered any serious health issues aside from a few minor physical discomforts.

Our team will always be nearby and fully available to help you with any medical problems you may have. We have also allocated enough time for acclimatization with a stop at Kerung, and we have included shorter, engaging hikes in the surrounding area.

You will ascend higher after only a few days, and you will be temporarily above 5000 m while crossing the pass. If you experience symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, or vomiting, please inform our guide immediately, who will take appropriate measures to assist you.

He may recommend that you descend or offer you Diamox. Oxygen will also be available when needed. We also encourage you to stay hydrated and ensure you get plenty of rest and sleep.

Preparation for our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar Luxury Tour

Undeniably, endurance is what you need for any trekking adventure in the mountains, which is therefore important for our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour as well.

Hence, we advise you to improve your endurance through activities like cycling, running, and swimming. You can also increase your fitness level by participating in sports that you love.

If you consider yourself very sensitive to high altitudes, then you can prepare yourself by going on moderate altitude hikes near your hometown.

The luxury Kailash Mansarovar tour via Kerung will also test your mental strength and adaptability, so get the information about the living conditions around Kailash and strengthen your mental resilience through meditation and deep breathing techniques.

Sleeping, Eating, and Traveling

On our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour, we provide you with deluxe accommodations in Kathmandu and Tibetan towns up to Darchen.

In Kathmandu, you will sleep in twin rooms of a five-star hotel, while in Kerung, Saga, and Darchen, you will stay in comfortable or luxury accommodations that are often seen as 4-star hotels.

You will get the world-class amenities along with proper rooms, hot water, WiFi, and charging facilities. When spending a night at Lake Mansarovar, we will organize a fine guesthouse, and in Dirapuk, our guide will find a newly established lodge for you.

However, in Zutulpuk, you will have to make do with the basic guesthouse for a night.

For meals, we offer a vegetarian menu for your breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with hot beverages like tea and coffee.

For transport, only private vehicles with a professional driver and guide will be used for your airport-to-hotel-to-airport transfers, Kathmandu tours, visa travel, and interstate and intercity travel inside Tibet.

We have also included the cost for the Lake Mansarovar parikrama by bus and the rental of horses or porters for the Kailash parikrama.

  • It is mandatory to buy an organized trip package from a registered tour operator like us
  • Traveling alone in Tibet and its monuments is prohibited
  • Tibet will not grant an essential permit and visa to individuals, but only to certified travel agencies
  • Processing of obligatory permits will take one month, so last-minute reservations will not be possible
  • Tailoring your trip itinerary will be possible; however, once the permit application is ongoing, changes cannot be made

Documents needed for our Luxury Mount Kailash Tour

To get the permits for our luxury Mount Kailash tour, please send us:

  • A colored scanned copy of your passport
  • A photo sized 51 mm X 51 mm with no expressions, makeup, or glasses on your face
  • The background of the photo should be plain white
  • Your passport needs to be active for at least 6 months after you depart from Tibet

Visa and Permits for your Luxury Kailash Mansarovar Tour via Kerung

A few permits and a visa will be essential for our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour, which our Tibetan local travel partner will organize on your behalf. They are:

  • Tibet Travel Permit/Tibet Entry Permit/ Tibet Visa/Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB or TTP) Permit
  • Chinese Group Visa
  • Alien Travel Permit
  • Military Permit
  • Foreign Affairs Permit

TTB Permit

This permit is an essential document needed for foreign travelers planning to visit any part of Tibet. It is provided by the Tibet Tourism Bureau and must be applied for through an authorized travel agency like us.

It is a single document that includes all your personal travel details, so once we initiate the TTP process, you can make no modifications. After we gather your documents, they will be forwarded to our local Tibetan travel partner.

They will then handle the permit acquisition process, which takes around 10-15 official days. We will, however, receive the formal Invitation Letter while the TTP will be collected and presented by our Tibetan guide at the Nepal-Tibet state border.

Chinese Group Visa

According to the rule set by the Chinese Government, to get the Chinese group visa, there should be at least five people in a group. Once all our guests are in Kathmandu, we will initiate the application process that takes 2 to 4 official days.

At the Chinese Embassy, we will have to submit our photo, fingerprints, and passport.

Among the common processes to apply for this visa, there is the standard one, which needs 4 days and costs $175 per person (U.S. nationals) and from $70 to $170 per person for others.

The other faster way to get the group visa is by the Express method, which takes 2 to 3 days and costs between $90 and $180 per person.

As a group visa, it will not be stamped on the passport but issued as a formal paper that requires all members of a group to arrive and depart from Tibet on the same day.

Attention

Our local Tibet travel agency will see the arrangement of the other three permits.

New Visa Policy regulated by China till late 2025/2026

After the tourism industry was badly hit by the pandemic, China now lets citizens from 38 countries enter the country visa-free, which will be valid for 30 days.

It means people from these 38 countries can also travel to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar visa-free, but they still need to have the TTP, and the other three permits (Alien Travel Permit, Foreign Affairs Permit, and military permit).

The countries that have been made visa-free are as follows:

  • Western Europe: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg
  • Northern and Eastern Europe: Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, and Hungary
  • Southern Europe: Malta, Andorra, Monaco, and Liechtenstein
  • Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe: Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia
  • Asia Pacific: Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, and Brunei

For Americans and Indians, a Chinese group visa and TTP, along with the other three permits, will be essential while undertaking the Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour from Nepal.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a very necessary component for our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour. If you happen to encounter any accident, illness, or a last-minute cancellation, your tour costs can quickly go high.

Here, we would like to clarify that we do not provide personal insurance for our guests, but only to our staff members who will accompany you. Therefore, it will be your responsibility to get your own travel insurance.

Our Mount Kailash Lake Mansarovar luxury tour is a high-altitude mountain journey that includes hiking above 5000 meters. So we advise you to specifically instruct your insurance company to include all activities involved in your tour, which is a high-altitude hike.

Also, include helicopter evacuation if necessary, up to 5700 meters in altitude, and any medical expenses.

Communication and Internet

For mobile communication and internet access in Tibet, you can buy a local SIM card from China Unicom, China Telecom, or China Mobile with the help of our Tibetan guide. These networks also provide 5G service, which also works effectively in Kailash.

Regarding WiFi, it will be accessible in Kerung, Saga, and possibly in Darchen as well. However, please know that internet usage in Tibet and all of China is now under constant surveillance and censorship by the Great Firewall.

So many Western services, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Google, YouTube, Twitter/X, Instagram, Gmail, and others, are unavailable. We suggest you use Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), which are software or applications that can trick even the Great Firewall.

We advise you to get the paid VPN rather than the free one. Also, install and test it at home before your luxury Kailash Mansarovar tour via Kerung starts.

Charging Facilities

Electricity in Nepal runs on 220 to 240 Volts, while in Tibet, it is 220 Volts, powerful enough to charge all your light and heavy electronic devices.

You will also have a constant supply of power, so there will be no problem whatsoever to recharge your batteries. However, you may have to pay a small fee for the service in Timure and some places in Kailash.

Other Routes to go to Kailash and Lake Mansarovar

If you are comfortable with flying and are looking for a more efficient and acclimatizing route, then you can choose to reach Kailash via Lhasa or Simikot.

If you opt for the Lhasa route, it involves a short flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, where you can spend a few days acclimatizing before ascending to the high altitude of Kailash. The route from Lhasa will connect to Saga in a few days.

Likewise, if you select the Simikot route, you will need to take two domestic flights in Nepal: one to Nepalgunj and another to Simikot. From Simikot, a helicopter will transport you to Hilsa, and from there, the route will lead you to Lake Mansarovar through Purang.

However, if you are not interested in flying and find the airfare to be quite expensive, you can enter Tibet via Kerung, then travel to Kailash and return through Lhasa to Nepal by driving along the Friendship Highway.

Additionally, another route has been reopened in Nepal through the Nyalam border, which also takes about 14 to 16 days.
