Trekking, Helicopter TourTitik Mula / Tamat
Kathmandu/KathmanduThe Luxury Gokyo Lakes trek is a 9 day journey through the Gokyo Valley in the Everest region of Nepal. It is a blend of mountain trekking and comfortable lodging accommodation, gradual acclimatisation and helicopter landing in Kathmandu. This walk passes through Sherpa villages, through the woods, along high mountain terrain and the glacier lakes of Gokyo.
The trip starts with a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft). The track from Lukla passes through the Dudh Koshi Valley en route to Phakding and then descends to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft). Namche is a vital stop to acclimatize to the higher altitudes before moving to the Gokyo Valley.
Namche is followed by an acclimatization day, which involves a hike towards the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m / 12,730 ft). The trail then goes back from the main route and goes through the villages of Dole and Machhermo and reaches Gokyo. Gokyo (4,790 m / 15,715 ft) is located on the edge of a series of glacial lakes and offers a quiet place to stay for exploring the nearby valley.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Gokyo Lakes trek with helicopter return is the early morning hike to the peak of Gokyo Ri. The viewpoint is at 5,357m (17,575ft) and offers views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu and other Himalayan peaks in clear skies. You will then be in Gokyo and have time to view these local lakes.
There is also an additional day for exploration, to be spent as a side trip towards the fourth and fifth Gokyo Lakes or as a buffer in case of unpredictable weather. This is helpful at high altitudes because conditions can change rapidly.
The final day is spent by helicopter flight, departing from Gokyo and heading straight to Kathmandu, instead of retracing the trekking path to Lukla. It saves a few days of the return trek and offers aerial views of the Himalayan mountains, glaciers and the valleys. The flight is dependent on weather and operational conditions.
Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek is ideal for trekkers who would like to experience the Himalayas on a high-altitude trek while minimizing the time to come back. Life Himalaya Trekking arranges trekking, support and coordinates the guests logistically throughout the tour.
The trip starts with a picturesque flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft). The flight typically takes about 30 minutes, subject to the weather and traffic conditions. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by the trekking team and you will start your trek towards Phakding.
The route heads downhill from Lukla and winds through small villages, stony paths and pine and rhododendron woodland. The suspension bridges and stretches of Dudh Koshi Valley will be crossed before reaching Phakding. It’s a relatively short walk, so you have time to get into the mountain environment.
Overnight at a nice hotel in Phakding and get ready for the longer trek up to Namche Bazaar the next day.

The trail slowly starts to climb up to Namche. The path then passes the renowned Hillary Suspension Bridge and winds through a forest area to the bustling town. The walk is quite steep, especially in the last part, so a steady pace is advisable.
The height of Namche Bazaar is 3,440 m (11,286 ft) and it’s one of the trading and acclimatization centres in the Khumbu region. Once you have arrived at the lodge, you will be able to relax and enjoy the mountain environment.

LodgeThe acclimatisation day is spent at Namche Bazaar today. Instead, you won’t remain totally still but you will slowly ascend and then descend and sleep at Namche at the same elevation. This will aid your body in adapting to a rise in elevation.
The primary activity of this trip is a walk to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m / 12,730 ft). The view from the viewpoint allows viewing several peaks of the Himalayas, which include Mount Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam, when the weather is clear.
From the hike, you will head back to Namche, where you can explore the town, visit the shops or check in at the lodge. Another night at Namche will be a great time to acclimatise before heading towards the higher Gokyo Valley.

LodgeAfter breakfast, you head up the trail into the Gokyo Valley on your way out of Dole. As the elevation rises, the landscape becomes more open, with the vegetation changing. You will cross through scrub, juniper and alpine pasture as you proceed along the valley to Machhermo.
As you climb up the trail, the Dudh Koshi River is still below you. The walking distance is less than yesterday but the increased elevation requires slowing down and drinking plenty of water.
Machhermo is located at 4700 m (14665 ft) and is a popular place to spend a night before moving toward Gokyo. Once you arrive at the lodge, you can get some rest and get ready for the next day’s hike to the lakes.

The path finally arrives at the Ngozumpa Glacier area and at the first of the Gokyo Lakes. Before reaching Gokyo village at the edge of the main lake, you will have to cross several glacial lakes. Gokyo is situated at approximately 4,790 m (15,715 ft).
Once at Gokyo, you can enjoy a rest at the lodge and spend some time strolling around the periphery of the lake if time and energy permit. It is important to make the afternoon one less stressful as the trek to Gokyo Ri early in the day starts at high altitudes.

LodgeWith an early start, you have the chance to climb Gokyo Ri at a time when the weather is typically clear. The trail is steeply ascending from Gokyo village and the high altitude makes the hike physically challenging. The summit reaches 5,357 m (17,575 ft).
Wide views from Gokyo Ri across the Khumbu Himalaya, Everest, Cho Oyu and Makalu can be seen depending on weather conditions. Once at the viewpoint, you’ll slowly descend to Gokyo village.
The rest of the day can be spent recuperating and enjoying the local Gokyo Lakes. This is also a very important acclimatization day since you must return to sleep at Gokyo after reaching the higher viewpoint.

LodgeIn Gokyo, today is a Buffer Day and Exploration Day. To the fourth and fifth Gokyo Lakes for a side trip is possible when conditions on the trail and the weather are favourable. This path traces the top of the valley next to the Ngozumpa Glacier to more remote parts of the lake system.
The fifth lake is at approximately 4,990 m (16,371 ft) and calls for prolonged high-altitude hiking. The distance to the fifth lake is typically about 7 km but may vary depending on the trail conditions and route taken.
This day can be used as a buffer day, either before or after Gokyo, if the weather is unclear or you need more rest. This is beneficial in a high mountain setting where conditions can vary rapidly. Overnight in your lodge at Gokyo.

The flight time from Gokyo to Kathmandu is typically about one hour, depending on the weather, route and flying conditions.
This direct flight saves the trekking route back to Lukla. Once in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your travel destination or hotel. This trek thus ends much earlier than a typical Gokyo Lakes trek that heads back overland from Lukla.

PenerbanganThe luxury Gokyo Lakes trek is a more peaceful route into the Everest region. After Namche Bazaar, the track heads towards the Gokyo Valley rather than towards Everest Base Camp. This path goes through Dole and Machhermo, eventually leading to the glacial lakes of Gokyo.
Gokyo is famous for its cluster of high-altitude lakes, the view of Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu as well as the great Ngozumpa Glacier. This valley is also part of the Sagarmatha National Park and has significant ecological and religious significance.
The big advantages of this option are:
The trail is particularly recommended for those who wish to trek to the high Himalayas without being restricted to the normal tour route of Everest Base Camp.
The Luxury Gokyo Lakes trek is a physically demanding trek at high altitudes that involves walking for a few hours a day and requires being physically fit. The trail is steep in places, rocky and has stone steps and rough mountain terrain. The highest point of the itinerary is Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m (17,575 ft).
The walking days are not too hard to cope with at a regular pace but altitude adds to the challenge of walking the distance. There is an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar and a couple of days around Gokyo to allow your body to acclimatize gradually.
The trip will be easier with a reasonable fitness level and some walking practice. Life Himalaya Trekking is able to arrange a trek guide and logistics for the entire route.
The itinerary slowly gets higher on the day and has both longer days of walking and shorter days for acclimatisation or exploring. A summary of the intended walking distances and time is given below.
| Hari | Route / Activity | lebih kurang Jarak |
| Hari 1 | Lukla ke Phakding | 8 km |
| Hari 2 | Phakding ke Namche Bazaar | 11 hingga 12 km |
| Hari 3 | Namche acclimatization and Everest View Hotel | 4 hingga 8 km |
| Hari 4 | Namche Bazaar ke Dole | 10 hingga 12 km |
| Hari 5 | Dole ke Machhermo | 7 hingga 8 km |
| Hari 6 | Machhermo ke Gokyo | 7 hingga 8 km |
| Hari 7 | Gokyo Ri and Gokyo Lakes | 6 hingga 7 km |
| Hari 8 | Fourth and fifth Gokyo Lakes | Lebih kurang 7 km |
| Hari 9 | Gokyo to Kathmandu by helicopter | Penerbangan |
Distances may vary slightly depending on the exact path taken on the trail, weather and conditions on the day. The final return is not a trekking day but a helicopter flight.
The weather in the Everest region is dynamic and it can significantly impact trekking experiences, so choosing the right season. Spring and autumn are typically the best times for the Gokyo Lakes trek with helicopter return due to relatively stable weather conditions and the altitude’s good visibility.
| musim | Keadaan Biasa | Kesesuaian Mendaki |
| Spring, March to May | Mild days, clear mountain views and blooming rhododendrons | Cemerlang |
| Summer, June to August | Monsoon rain, clouds and possible flight disruptions | Kurang sesuai |
| Autumn, September to November | Clear skies, dry trails and good visibility | Cemerlang |
| Winter, December to February | Cold temperatures, snow and shorter daylight | Possible with preparation |
The spring season is ideal for walking during the day and in autumn, trails are often dry and offer good visibility.
Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek meals are typically eaten in the local teahouses and lodges along the way. They can usually find all sorts of foods, such as dal bhat, noodles, pasta, rice, soup, potatoes, vegetables, eggs and Tibetan-style breads. Dal bhat is a suitable option to eat as it serves as a source of carbohydrates and proteins for the long days of the trek.
Breakfast can be porridge, eggs, bread, pancakes or Tibetan bread. Lunch is usually eaten in a lodge or teahouse along the trail and dinner is served at the overnight lodging.
There is a variety of hot drinks available, including tea, coffee and hot lemon and ginger tea. It is particularly important to drink sufficient water at high altitudes. A reusable bottle can be used and treated or filtered water can be used instead of direct streams.
Accommodation on the Gokyo Ri helicopter trek is mainly provided by teahouses and mountain lodges. These properties are meant for trekkers and typically consist of a bed, blankets, a shared or private bathroom and a dining area.
As the path ascends, it becomes easier. There are more choices of accommodation and services in Namche Bazaar than in Dole, Machhermo and Gokyo.
Rooms typically have simple furnishings and are functional. Heating is generally concentrated in the communal dining area rather than individual bedrooms. Hot showers and charging stations are also available and may be subject to a fee and availability cannot be guaranteed.
Some lodges also offer wi fi but it’s not always reliable. It can be helpful to make a reservation, especially during peak trekking seasons, if people need to stay in a private room or certain facilities.
Altitude sickness is an important consideration for a high-altitude trip like the Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek. Symptoms may include headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite and insomnia. They can also be experienced by individuals who are physically fit.
The elevation change in the route is gradual and has acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. You will also be spending some time in Gokyo before you undertake the higher hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,575 ft).
Slowly walking, drinking plenty of fluids and limiting alcohol will help lower the risk. If symptoms are severe or worsen, it is important to immediately alert your guide. Stop when there are significant symptoms. If the effects of altitude sickness become serious, it is important to descend to a lower elevation.
The Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek Package will be easier and more enjoyable with good preparation. Technical climbing experience is not necessary but you should be able to walk uphill and downhill for a couple of hours.
Start regular training a couple of weeks before departure. Endurance can be improved by walking, hiking, stair climbing, cycling and any other aerobic activity.
Mental preparation is also helpful as weather, altitude and trail conditions may impact the daily schedule.
Foreign tourists require a tourist visa to enter Nepal. At present, Nepal offers Tourist visas on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport to eligible nationalities and some Nationalities are required to apply for a tourist visa prior to their arrival. The tourist visa fees are USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days and USD 125 for 90 days.
The Gokyo trek goes through Sagarmatha National park that requires a national park entry permit. You will also need a Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit.
Conditions for trekking locally may vary, so please check with your trekking company for current trekking permits. Life Himalaya Trekking can help you make the necessary arrangements and documentation for your trekking.
A Gokyo Valley Helicopter Trek is a safe one as a significant part of the trek is above 3,000 m. Take your time and let your guide know if you feel unusually tired, have a headache, feel dizzy or if you have breathing difficulties.
The weather and flying conditions are also important when it comes to the helicopter return. Be flexible with your travel plans as it may be impacted by mountain weather.
These two viewpoints are common high-altitude viewpoints in the rantau Everest but both offer different experiences. The main viewpoint on this trip is Gokyo Ri, which is accessible from Gokyo. Kala Patthar can be accessed from the Everest Base Camp side and it is especially famous for its view of Mount Everest.

Gokyo Valley luxury trek is not about EBC and Kala Patthar; it is about the lake system and Gokyo Ri. It is a choice between glacial lakes and a less noisy valley or the route to the Everest Base Camp and the viewpoints.
The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by trekking to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Dole, Machhermo and Gokyo. Lukla is the primary airport for trekking in this area but flights may be canceled due to weather conditions.
The helicopter return is the main attraction of the Gokyo Lakes trek. You will fly a helicopter from Gokyo straight to Kathmandu if weather, visibility and operational conditions permit.
Aviation in Nepal is controlled by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and aviation requirements apply to the issuance of helicopter flight permits and operations.
Life Himalaya Trekking makes the necessary transfer and flight arrangements for you. Be flexible with your itinerary following the journey, since conditions in the mountains can change weather-related conditions.
As the Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek involves a remote mountainous area and high altitudes, it is strongly recommended to have travel insurance. Your policy should be appropriate for the highest altitude you plan to trek.
Carefully review the policy before buying it. Ideally should include emergency medical treatment, evacuation and trip interruption. Insurance coverage should cover being evacuated by helicopter, which may be required in a severe medical emergency.
Your insurance company might ask you to call their assistance service before evacuation, unless emergency action is needed. Carry your policy number and emergency contact information on you on the trail.
Standard travel policies might not include high altitude trekking as a standard benefit, so check the maximum altitude you are covered for as well as activities before travelling.
The Gokyo Lakes trek with helicopter return package may include several big trekking services but the cost of personal expenses is usually not included. Carrying some Nepalese rupees along is helpful as you get into the mountains as card payments and ATMs start to get scarce.
Other potential costs may include:
Normally, there are higher prices at higher elevations due to higher costs of transporting supplies into remote areas. Before leaving the lower settlements, take along sufficient cash for your own consumption.
The native language of Nepal is Nepali and English is widely spoken in the tourist industry. International visitors can usually converse with the lodge owners and guides and others involved in tourism, along the trekking trail in basic English.
Your guide may assist you in communicating when ordering food, booking accommodation or requesting local information. Speaking some basic Nepali phrases like “Namaste” (hello) can also make life easier.
The mobile network has coverage throughout the route and quality is sometimes poor in remote areas. Some lodges provide internet access and can be slower, with an extra cost. Bring a power bank as power outlets are not always readily available.
Keep important travel information, emergency contacts and copies of essential documents available offline in case the internet is unavailable.
The Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek Package is about responsible travel. The environment of the mountain is vulnerable and local communities rely heavily on tourism.
The guides, lodge staff and other trekkers must be respected for it to be a pleasant journey.
During the Gokyo Valley Helicopter Trek, there are numerous opportunities for photography in the high mountain terrain. Avoid cold, water and dust exposure of the camera or phone and have extra batteries or a power bank as charging might be limited at high altitudes.
Seek permission to take photos of local people, especially monks, children and people during religious events. Obey signage or directions that prohibit photography in some areas.
Using a drone does require extra precautions. According to Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority, foreign nationals who want to operate a drone in the country must apply for temporary drone registration from the Civil Aviation Authority’s Flight Safety Standards Department and the drone must be submitted for inspection.
The use of unmanned aircraft is also subject to restrictions and limitations set out in the CAAN regulations, such as those concerning altitude, populated areas, aerodromes and restricted areas.
Avoid flying a drone around Lukla, Gokyo or any other place where the view seems to be appropriate. Check all necessary clearances before using one.
For the Luxury Gokyo Lakes trek, it is easier to handle if you know a few practical tips before you head to Nepal. Travel documentation should be neat and orderly and try to be flexible with travel plans when traveling in the mountains.
Navigating is quite simple in the major tourist areas of Nepal but not in the remote trekking areas. Permits, guides, transportation and other details can be arranged with Life Himalaya Trekking for your convenience.
In the high mountains, luxury takes on a different meaning. It is a remote trek, so don’t expect city hotel facilities at each stop but rather it is a more comfortable and organized trek in comparison to a standard trek.
Gokyo Lakes Trek helicopter return accommodation is generally in good local lodges and teahouses. Accommodations can include private rooms, depending on the lodge and location. Bathrooms and hot showers can be simpler at higher elevations.
The helicopter return will also be a useful option, not requiring a trek back from Gokyo to Lukla. This can save multiple days on the trek and make the trek more suitable for those with limited time.
Support can consist of airport transfers, internal flights, hotel, food, guides, porters, permits and helicopter. Before traveling, it is best to verify with Life Himalaya Trekking the specific services to be included in the excursion.
The Gokyo Valley is an area of high-altitude glacial lakes in the Sagarmatha National Park. Nepal Tourism Board has divided the Gokyo wetland series into six main lakes. The lakes are linked with the headwaters of the Dudh Koshi River and are a vital high mountain wetland system.
The main Gokyo Lake (also known as Dudh Pokhari) is located close to the village of Gokyo. Other lakes are more extended into the valley, such as Thonak Cho and Ngozumba Cho. The entire wetland complex is known as a Ramsar Site due to its ecological significance.
The lakes are also of religious importance to the Hindu and Buddhist people. The water is considered sacred and people should not swim, litter or disturb the surroundings. The wetland is also conducive to the passage of migratory birds that fly across the Himalayas.
Both routes follow the lower stretch through Lukla and Namche Bazaar but then split up in the Khumbu. The Gokyo route goes towards Dole and Machhermo, while the standard Everest Base Camp route goes towards Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche.
| Ciri | Trek Tasik Gokyo | Trek Camp Base Everest |

For those who wish to enjoy a shorter overall trek than one that entails a trek to Gokyo as well as Everest Base Camp, the Gokyo Lakes Trek with helicopter return is an excellent choice. The routes need to be acclimatized and preparation.
The helicopter return will be the last day of the trip, flying from Gokyo to Kathmandu, instead of having to trek back to Lukla. This makes the trek much shorter after the high-altitude stretch.
From an aerial point of view, the flight offers a unique perspective of the region, showcasing valleys, glaciers and mountain ridges. The exact flight schedule will be determined by the weather, visibility, aircraft availability and aviation conditions.
There are some key pieces of information to be aware of:
Helicopter return is a great service but should not be assumed to occur at a scheduled time in the high mountains.
When packing for the Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek, it’s important to strike a balance between comfort and functionality. This can be fairly mild in the lower parts of the day and very cold around Gokyo and also before sunrise around Gokyo Ri.
Bring clothes that are layered instead of one heavy coat. A good daypack should have items that are required for the day’s walk and larger luggage can be normally carried as determined with trekking team arrangements.
Item penting termasuk:
On early attempts to Gokyo Ri, make sure that you have your warmest clothing as temperatures can be significantly colder before sunrise. Keep the pack as light as possible as long uphill sections are easier when you don’t have to transport too much.
The Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m / 9,318ft). The walk from Lukla passes through Phakding and Namche Bazaar, heading down towards the Gokyo Valley.
The trail reaches Dole at around 4,200 m (13,780 ft) and Machhermo (4,470 m / 14,665 ft) before continuing to Gokyo (4,790 m / 15,715 ft). The highest point is Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m (17,575 ft).
| seksyen | Approximate Elevation |
| Kathmandu | 1,400 m / 4,593 ft |
| Lukla | 2,840 m / 9,318 ft |
| Bazar Namche | 3,440 m / 11,286 ft |
| Dole | 4,200 m / 13,780 ft |
| Machhermo | 4,470 m / 14,665 ft |
| Gokyo | 4,790 m / 15,715 ft |
| Gokyo Ri | 5,357 m / 17,575 ft |
The return trip is then by helicopter to Kathmandu, after the Gokyo exploration.
It is evident that the scene is different as one ascends further up into the Khumbu region. The trek begins around Lukla, where green hills, forest, villages and the Dudh Koshi River form a comparatively lower elevation landscape.
The route carries you on through forests of pines and rhododendrons, suspension bridges and terraced settlements as you head towards Namche Bazaar. The trail opens up after Namche, passing less and less through wooded sections and more through alpine country after a short distance to Dole and then further on to Machhermo.
The landscapes start to take on a distinctly high mountain character near Gokyo. The glacial valleys, rocky slopes and snow-covered peaks gain in prominence as does the Ngozumpa Glacier.
The end section around Gokyo and Gokyo Ri is glacierized and comprises lakes and high Himalayan peaks. That’s a gradual change that causes the Gokyo Lakes Trek helicopter return to be a visual contrast from start to finish.
Normally, the trekking day begins with breakfast in the lodge and then the walking of the day starts. The time of departure is dependent upon distance, weather and the day’s goal. Generally, it is better to start early on longer days.
The walk is at a steady pace, with brief stops throughout the route. Lunch is usually at a teahouse or lodge along the way. The walk during the afternoon will lead to the next day’s overnight stop.
On arrival at the lodge, trekkers can sit back, enjoy a hot beverage and recuperate from their walk. Generally, dinner is served at the end of the day and preparation is made for the next day.
The schedule for acclimatization or exploration days is subject to change. For instance, the Gokyo Ri climb starts early and the extra Gokyo exploration day can be arranged as per the weather and your fitness.
The walk has a number of places where the mountain landscape comes into view. Hiking up to the Everest View Hotel (3880 m / 12730 ft) is an early chance to enjoy Everest and other big Himalayan summits during good visibility.
Open sections are also available along the trail between Namche and Dole with an open view of the surrounding valleys. The mountains are closer and the terrain is more open as you make your way into Machhermo.
From the valley, one can see the surrounding peaks and glacial lakes from Gokyo. These lakes are really beautiful when seen against the mountain slopes.
The highest viewpoint is Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,575 ft). From here, the weather allows for views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse and many more Himalayan peaks.
As the helicopter makes its way back to Kathmandu, the last chance to take in the mountain scenery from the air.
The Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek is highly recommended for those wishing to visit the high Himalayas without heading towards Everest Base Camp but instead to the Gokyo Valley. This is especially recommended for those who like glacial lakes, mountain views and the viewpoint of Gokyo Ri.
For those who may not have much vacation time, the itinerary is also appropriate as it does not require a hike back towards Lukla on foot, which is a possibility with the helicopter return. The path still has a few challenging walking days and ends at the Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,575 ft), where physical fitness is needed.
It is advisable for trekkers who want to have a comfortable and well-organised trek with an authentic high-altitude trekking experience. For experienced trekkers seeking something different from the well-trodden route of Everest Base Camp, the Gokyo Valley luxury trek may be a good option.
It is a walk of several hours, uphill and downhill and travellers must be at ease at high altitude (above 2,400 meters) and understand the effects of high altitude before joining the trip.
Helicopter return is an integral part of the Gokyo Lakes trek and helicopter return and mountain flights are not possible without suitable weather and aviation conditions. Delays may occur due to cloud, strong winds, low visibility or operational factors.
If the helicopter is unable to make the flight, your trekking group will make the next practical arrangement. This can include delays due to flight conditions or changes to travel plans.
Some important considerations here are:
Life Himalaya Trekking will make the arrangements if there is a change in the flights arranged and inform travelers.
The Luxury Gokyo Lakes Trek will definitely be different once you start to delve deeper into the Khumbu region. The first days from Lukla to Namche traverse forests, villages, suspension bridges and the Dudh Koshi Valley. These lower areas of the trail are greener and more peaceful.
From Namche, the road to Dole and Machhermo is on a quieter and more alpine road. As they move further away, trees start to disappear and open hillsides, rocks and mountains begin to appear.
It’s another area of change from Machhermo to Gokyo. The glacial landscape, high mountain slopes and Ngozumpa Glacier are added to the scene. Gokyo is located next to its glacial lakes (4,790 m / 15,715 ft).
The last phase is dedicated to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,575 ft) and the surrounding lakes. The trek then becomes a flight and the Gokyo Valley luxury trek comes to a special end.
There are two options for the Khumbu landscape on the Gokyo Lakes trek and helicopter back. As you hike, you are on the ground and the mountains are on the road with you and you watch the villages, rivers and glaciers change.
Highlights from the trail include close-ups of the Gokyo Lakes and the Ngozumpa Glacier and other peaks are seen at various angles as you walk through the valley. Further views of the widest Himalayan vistas can be seen from Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,575 kaki).
The helicopter journey provides a completely different view. The multiple paths can be viewed from above as valleys, mountain slopes, glaciers and settlements. When seen from the air, familiar places of this trekking route are seen as if they are connected.
| From the Ground | From the Helicopter |
| Gokyo Lakes at close range | Gokyo Valley from above |
| Walking beside mountain terrain | Wider aerial landscape |
| Villages and suspension bridges | Remote valleys and settlements |
| Ngozumpa Glacier from the trail | Glacial landscape from the air |
| Gokyo Ri mountain panorama | Broader Himalayan perspective |
This mix of ground and air views creates a unique perspective on the journey, which a regular return trek won’t offer.
The Gokyo Lakes trek with a helicopter return is especially advantageous for those who wish to experience the Gokyo Valley but do not wish to continue the trek for a few more days to return to Lukla.
