Best time to visit Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek

Nepal has four seasons. Summer, Winter, Spring, and Autumn. The best seasons are Spring and Autumn.

Autumn Season

Spring season

This is the second-best season. Everything is green and beautiful. The flower starts blooming and there are green leaves on the trees.

Difficulty in Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek

This trek is a high altitude trek. The trails and passes are not easy to follow. There are various bridges. You have to be careful enough to pass through it. There is one main bridge that you have to cross. This bridge connects the Gokyo valley and Khumbu valley.

Cho La bridge is a lifeline for the Khumbu region. Cho La pass requires your physical and mental strength. It is one of the most difficult passes to cross in this journey of Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek.

After Everest Base Camp, you can also trek to Kala Pattar. From Kala Pattar, everything is near and clear. This is at an altitude of 5643m. Oxygen level and air pressure continue to decrease. You may find it difficult to breathe.

Detail Itinerary for EBC, Chola Pass and Gokyo Trek

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and overnight at hotel

Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) is ready to welcome you to Nepal. Hope your flight was comfortable. A hotel representative will take you to your hotel.

You change and be fresh at the hotel. Rest for a while too. You will have a meeting in the Life Himalaya Trekking office. It will be a short briefing about the trekking and schedule. You can roam around the local market or have a rest in the hotel room.

Day 02: City sightseeing

Today you will enjoy the flavor of Kathmandu city. It is the capital city of Kathmandu. It is one of the largest cities in Nepal.

Kathmandu is famous for its cultural and historical background. It is famous for temples, monasteries, and the hospitality of local people. After having a proper breakfast, you will start exploring Kathmandu city. There are various places under the UNESCO world heritage site. You can visit these places.

Pashupatinath Temple is the main attraction. It is popular among both local and foreign tourists; a Lord Shiva Temple. It is one of the main temples in Hinduism. You can visit three durbar squares here in the Kathmandu valley. Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Another famous temple is Monkey Temple. Swayambhunath is another name for it. Boudhanath is another famous tourist destination. It is one of the largest stupas in the world. In the evening, you will roam around Thamel. You can enjoy the nightlife. It is famous among tourists. You can also buy some trekking gear if necessary.

Day 03: Flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2700m)

Now it is time to take the flight to Lukla. It will take you about 40 minutes to reach Lukla from Kathmandu. You will have your breakfast here.

Lukla airport is one of the world’s most dangerous airports. This mountain flight will take you above the great Himalayas. Book your window seat and enjoy the view. This will be a thrilling experience for you.

You will start your trekking from today. You will follow the Dudh Koshi. It is an easy 3 hours trek to Phakding. In this journey, you will descend and reach Cheplung village. From this village, you can see Mount Khumbila. From Cheplung, you will ascend and reach Phakding.

Phakding is a small village in the Khumbu region. It lies in the northern direction of Lukla. You will see various monasteries along this journey.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazar (3440m)

Today you will reach Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar is also a gateway to the Everest region. The journey of Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek starts from Namche Bazar.

It will take you 5 hours to Namche Bazar. Trek is easy until you reach Jorsale. At Jorsale, you will reach Sagarmatha National Park. It comes under the UNESCO world heritage site. You will also pass through waterfalls. Rhododendron and Pine forest are all over these trails.

You will cross the Dudh Koshi River five times through different suspension bridges. After crossing Hillary bridge, the trek starts to ascend. From Namche Bazar, you can have a majestic view of Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse. Prayer flags are welcoming you to Namche Bazar.

Day 05: Rest in Namche Bazar

Everest Three High Passes Trek Itinerary

Today you will rest here at Namche Bazar. You need proper acclimatization to continue this journey further.

The oxygen level is less here. With increasing altitude, it is a normal thing. Your body is not used to these conditions. Your body must adjust to these changing environmental conditions. You have to spend this day here at Namche Bazar.

You will enjoy sunrise and sunset at Khumbu Peak. There is beauty in every direction. You need to cherish every moment here. You can visit local markets and talk to local people. Sherpa people here are lovable.

This day, we will hike 2 to 3 hours to the nearest villages like Khunde or Khumjung. There is an Everest view hotel in Khumjung. It is one of the hotels in the highest altitude. There are few monasteries, you will also see the head of Yeti in one of them.

You will visit Bakery at the world’s highest altitude. Panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam will make you hypnotize. You will visit Khumjung valley, Hillary school, Kunde hospital, and many more. After this hike, you return back to Namche.

Day 06: Trek to Tengboche

It is time to move from Namche Bazar to Tengboche. You have explored the Namche Bazar yesterday, now it is time to explore Tengboche.

Today you will walk for 5 to 6 hours. After having breakfast, you will start the trek to Tengboche. You will walk through the side of valleys. Entering and exiting from different valleys. You will climb a hill and descend to a low hill in this journey to Tengboche.

You will pass through different tea shops in Kenjoma. As you continue, you will join the trail from Khumjung. Do you know the most exciting part of this trek? It is the view of Mount Everest and Lhotse. You will pass through the small settlement of Sanasa.

Continuing the journey, you will get through the pine forest and Rhododendron forest. The Monastery of Tengboche stands straight at 3870m. It is the largest monastery in the Khumbu region. From here you will majestic view of Kwangde (6187m), Tawachee (6542m), and many more. You will stay here today.

Day 07: Tengboche to Dingboche (4350m)

Today is your seventh day of Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek. You will reach Dingboche today.

It will take you 5 to 6 hours to reach Dingboche from Tengboche. The height of Dingboche is more than Tengboche but you have to descend first. It is 11 kilometers. This route is full of pine forests. You will smell the scent of Rhododendron.

After crossing the Khumbila River, you will steep towards Ridgeline. A few hours later you will reach Pangboche. Somare is ahead of Pangboche. You will reach Dingboche after you cross Imja valley.

Day 08: Day trip to Chhukung valley and back to Dingboche

You will start this trek after having your breakfast. It is a nice and easy trek to Chhukung valley. You will see all the mountains, especially Mount Ama Dablam.

Moraines towards Island Peak are mesmerizing. This is a short but beautiful trek. You will return to Dingboche when you finish this hike. It is also an acclimatization day. You will stay here at Dingboche.

Tomorrow you will trek towards more height. So it is necessary to adjust your body with these changing conditions. At night in Dingboche, you may encounter some strong winds.

Day 09: Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m)

Lobuche is your destination today. It is a 5 hour-long journey. It is a gentle climb until you reach Chorten trails.

After climbing one and a half hours you will reach Chorten trails. You will reach Thungla 4600m. This route is full of prayer flags. You can have lunch here. Few tea houses and lodges are available. Mount Pumori and Mount Nuptse feel closer as you walk forward.

The trails forward are broad and clean. While moving forward, you will reach moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. As you continue to your destination to Lobuche, you will see several mountains.

Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp Then back to Gorak Shep (5180m)

It is a difficult trek towards Everest Base Camp. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. You will walk for 7 to 8 hours.

We will cover a total distance of 15 kilometers. You will start your trek to Gorak Shep. During this trek, you will see majestic Everest, Nuptse, and many other mountains. After the climb of 150m, the trails get better.

There is the world’s highest settlement at Gorak Shep at the height of 5160m. It is the place where you sight the Khumbu Glacier. The trails are rough. You begin the trek to Everest Base Camp from here.

We will walk through the ridge of Khumbu Glacier. You are now heading towards Everest Base Camp. Everest Base Camp is 5360m. You will see climbers all around this place. It is the clearest and closest view of Mount Everest from the base camp.

You will get a proper view of the Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu icefall. Click as many photos as you can. It is a lifetime moment and experience. You will return back to Gorak Sheo for the stay.

Day 11: Hike to Kalapattar and trek back to Dzongla

With the intention of seeing the sunrise from Kalapattar, you should move ahead. The view of sunrise is extraordinary.

It will take you 7 to 8 hours to reach Kalapattar. The view of mountains is breathtaking. After reaching Kalapattar and taking photos, you will return to Gorak Shep. You will again start the journey towards Dzongla.

Day 12: Dzongla to Thangla (4650m)

This trek takes around 7 to 8 hours. It is 23 kilometers long. You will first cross the Chola Pass. This is the second destination of our Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek.

Till now we have visited Everest Base Camp and Chola Pass. You have to walk over the glacier. It is a lifetime experience. It is a satisfying experience. In the winter season, it is almost impossible to cross this pass.

You have to cross the bridge after this pass. You will follow the straight trail until you reach Phedi. After Phedi, you reach the destination for today. It is Thangla 4650m. Thangla is a small village. You see a few tea houses and lodges. You will stay here tonight.

Day 13: Thangla to Gokyo

Gokyo is a new destination for today. This is the last destination under Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek.

This path from Thangla to Gokyo is easy and comfortable. You will follow the route of Dudh Koshi. The sideways of Dudh Koshi will take you to Gokyo. You will reach Gokyo Valley.

You will explore this valley today. There are various lakes and glaciers in this valley. You can view the majestic Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, Makalu, and many more. Night stay here at Gokyo.

Day 14: Climb to Gokyo Ri and trek to Machhermo

The trek to Gokyo Ri is an upward journey. It is a steep hill and mountains throughout the journey. It may be painful for some of you but the view is worth the pain.

Once you reach the pass, your every pain transfers to happiness. The astounding view of Gokyo valley will make you nostalgic about this journey. Ngozumpa glacier is a major attraction in this region. After you submit the pass, it is time to descend back.

You will follow the same trail side of Dudh Koshi. You will follow this route to reach Machhermo.

Day 15: Machhermo to Namche Bazar

Today’s journey will take you to the gateway of the Everest region that is Namche Bazar. This route is full of Alpine forests and Rhododendron forest.

There are various Sherpa villages throughout this journey. You can buy some gifts for your friends and family in Namche Bazar. You will stay here at Namche Bazar today.

Day 16: Namche to Lukla

First, you will reach Phakding and only to Lukla. It is a beautiful trail. It will take you 5 hours to complete this trek.

You will reach Lukla in the evening. You will give rest to your tired legs. It is almost the end of the Everest Base Camp (EBC) Chola Pass Gokyo Trek. You will have some drinks at a local pub in Lukla. Every member of the team will enjoy this moment.

Before leaving for Kathmandu this is your last moment of this wonderful journey. You will take the first flight tomorrow.

Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu

Today is the day you will leave all these wonderful memories with mountains. Morning flight will take you to Kathmandu. This beautiful journey comes to an end.

From the window seat, for the last time, you will see the beautiful scenery of the mountains. You will be in your hotel room. You will enjoy your last days at Kathmandu.
